About the role

Torc Robotics is seeking a highly skilled FinOps Engineer to take charge of managing and optimizing cloud costs across our multi-cloud infrastructure. This role requires close collaboration with engineering, finance, and procurement teams to implement financial controls, develop reporting standards, and drive cost-saving initiatives. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting our mission to revolutionize freight movement through autonomous technology by ensuring cloud spending is efficient, transparent, and aligned with organizational goals. The position involves analyzing cloud usage data, identifying cost anomalies, and fostering a culture of financial accountability within the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud financial management, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What you'll do

• Oversee cloud cost management by developing detailed budgets, forecasts, and anomaly detection processes to ensure cloud expenses stay within planned limits.
• Lead the entire FinOps lifecycle, including planning, implementation, and continuous improvement, working closely with engineering, finance, and procurement teams using Lean-Agile methodologies.
• Design and implement cost models, tagging strategies, and rate optimization initiatives to maximize cost efficiency while maintaining compliance with data governance and quality standards.
• Analyze cloud billing and usage data to identify cost anomalies, variances, and areas of underutilization or misconfiguration, then recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams during daily stand-ups and planning sessions to communicate progress, address challenges, and align on cost management strategies.
• Develop and maintain showback and chargeback models, dashboards, and verification strategies to provide transparency and accountability for cloud expenses across the organization.
• Aggregate cloud billing and usage data from multiple cloud providers, creating comprehensive reports and insights to support decision-making and cost optimization efforts.
• Conduct forecasting and scenario analysis to predict future cloud costs, helping teams plan for capacity and budget adjustments proactively.
• Promote a culture of cloud financial accountability by educating teams on best practices, cost-saving techniques, and the importance of cost control in cloud operations.
• Clearly communicate cloud cost trends, savings opportunities, and financial insights to stakeholders at all levels, enabling informed decision-making.
• Work with cross-functional teams to implement automation and tooling that streamline cost management processes and improve accuracy.
• Support the organization's compliance with data governance, security policies, and industry standards related to cloud usage and financial management.
• Stay current with industry best practices, emerging cloud cost management tools, and FinOps community developments to continuously improve processes and strategies.
• Assist in developing policies and procedures that embed cost management into the engineering and operational workflows.
• Participate in regular reviews of cloud spend and performance metrics, providing actionable insights to leadership.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or a related field, with 6 or more years of relevant experience; or a Master's Degree in a similar discipline, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Extensive experience managing cloud costs and implementing FinOps best practices across multi-cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
• Deep understanding of cloud billing, cost allocation, and optimization techniques.
• Proven ability to analyze large datasets, identify cost anomalies, and recommend actionable solutions.
• Strong knowledge of cloud cost management tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, Google Cloud Billing, or similar platforms.
• Experience working within Lean-Agile methodologies, including participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams, influence decision-making, and foster a culture of accountability.
• Familiarity with data governance, security standards, and compliance requirements related to cloud usage and financial management.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation in cloud cost management processes.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with cloud cost management tools such as CloudHealth, Cloudability, or similar platforms.
• Background in financial analysis, accounting, or budgeting related to cloud infrastructure.
• Knowledge of scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Terraform) to streamline cost management workflows.
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in FinOps and cloud financial governance.
• Experience working in a technology-driven organization focused on autonomous systems or robotics.
