About the role
Torc Robotics is on the lookout for a Senior Controller to spearhead our accounting and tax operations as we advance our autonomous trucking solutions. This pivotal role is essential for maintaining our financial integrity and will require close collaboration with various departments, including Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and Legal. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will be instrumental in shaping our financial strategies and ensuring compliance across the organization.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes, ensuring accuracy in journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and accruals.
- Supervise the reconciliation of general ledger accounts across the organization, ensuring data integrity and swiftly resolving any discrepancies that arise.
- Work closely with Finance leadership to develop business plans and operational strategies that align with Torc's long-term objectives, taking into account future global requirements.
- Prepare detailed schedules and analyses of operating account results and variances, leading the creation of working capital and cash flow reports for executive review.
- Ensure precise financial records and reporting for profit and loss, tax obligations, liabilities, and assets throughout the organization.
- Generate and deliver specialized financial reports and analyses as requested by senior leadership, synthesizing account data and identifying business trends.
- Develop, monitor, and refine accounting policies and procedures, leading testing and self-assessment activities as part of the Internal Controls System.
- Stay compliant with financial regulations at all levels by keeping informed about existing and new legislation and its implications for the organization.
- Provide insights to leadership on accounting trends and emerging issues globally, representing the Finance team in cross-functional and executive discussions.
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting managers and professionals, identifying opportunities for growth and development within the team.
- Protect the organization's value by maintaining the confidentiality of financial information and exercising sound judgment with sensitive data.
- Keep abreast of accounting standards and best practices through continuous professional development and industry engagement.
Requirements
- A valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential is required.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, coupled with a minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or mentorship roles.
- Demonstrated experience managing an operational accounting function that has a significant organizational impact, including the preparation of financial statements and budgets.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, with a preference for Workday, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience in job cost accounting, inter-company accounting, and vendor/customer reconciliations.
- Proven ability to design and test internal controls (e.g., SOX-compliant processes) and drive process improvements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise senior leaders and translate financial data into actionable insights.
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Nice to have
- Experience in sectors such as automotive, robotics, manufacturing, or other engineering-focused technology fields.
- Familiarity with global, multi-entity, or parent-subsidiary reporting structures.
- Background in mergers and acquisitions integration or large-scale ERP/financial systems implementations.
- Experience providing guidance to executive leadership on emerging accounting or regulatory issues.
