About the role
The New York Times seeks an Associate Manager, Supplier Operations to own the full lifecycle of our supplier partnerships. This position is critical for bridging our business development efforts with day-to-day execution. You will manage the technical and operational integration of suppliers, ensuring they meet our brand standards from the very first interaction and sustain high performance over time. This hybrid role reports to the Senior Manager, Ecommerce Partnerships and requires three days per week in our New York City headquarters. Your primary mission is to configure and support our Shopify Collective ecosystem so that our suppliers can deliver exceptional experiences to our readers. You will act as the key advocate for suppliers, ensuring they have the necessary tools, information, and support to fulfill orders accurately and efficiently while maintaining the journalistic integrity the brand is known for.

What you'll do
Orchestrate the complete technical onboarding process for new suppliers, mapping inventory, pricing, and shipping rules within the Shopify ecosystem to ensure seamless integration.
Architect and optimize bespoke Product Detail Pages, configuring metafields, variant images, and descriptions to maximize conversion rates and user engagement.
Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues such as catalog sync errors to prevent stock inaccuracies and pricing mistakes that could undermine reader trust.
Develop, maintain, and evolve a comprehensive "Supplier Playbook" that codifies standard operating procedures, creating a consistent and reliable experience for every partner.
Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams to ensure that supplier inventory levels remain accurate and perfectly aligned with upcoming projects and strategic initiatives.
Act as the central technical liaison for suppliers within the Shopify Collective environment, troubleshooting workflow bottlenecks and process inefficiencies.
Analyze supplier performance metrics deeply and translate data into actionable, practical guidance for internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
Champion the mission of journalistic independence, demonstrating how this core value supports the broader goals of helping people understand the world through reliable information.
Implement rigorous quality assurance protocols on product listings and configurations to guarantee that every supplier touchpoint meets the highest brand standards.
Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the supplier experience within the tooling, removing friction and enabling partners to focus on delivering exceptional content and commerce experiences.
Requirements
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in e-commerce operations, catalog management, and supplier relations is mandatory for this role.
Demonstrated expertise in using Shopify and Shopify Collective, along with project management platforms such as Airtable and Miro, is a non-negotiable hard bar for success.
A proven track record of building and sustaining strong, collaborative relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners is essential.
