What you'll do

• Develop and implement comprehensive safeguards strategies to ensure compliance with national and international regulations governing nuclear energy.
• Conduct thorough assessments of existing safety protocols and recommend enhancements to improve operational efficiency and safety.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and regulatory affairs, to integrate safeguards into all stages of project development.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safeguards measures, making adjustments as necessary to address emerging risks or regulatory changes.
• Prepare detailed reports and documentation for regulatory agencies, ensuring transparency and accountability in all safeguard-related activities.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies, facilitating inspections and audits while ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
• Lead training sessions for staff on safeguards protocols, fostering a culture of safety and compliance within the organization.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes that may impact safeguards practices, providing insights to senior management.
• Assist in the development of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
• Engage with stakeholders, including community members and government officials, to communicate the importance of safeguards and address any concerns.
• Participate in industry conferences and workshops to share knowledge and best practices related to nuclear safeguards.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's safety culture by promoting open communication and reporting of safety concerns.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, environmental science, safety management, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in nuclear safety, regulatory compliance, or a related area.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, including those set forth by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
• Proven experience in developing and implementing safety protocols and risk management strategies.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various teams and with external stakeholders.
• Proficiency in using safety management software and tools to track compliance and performance metrics.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as a Master's in Nuclear Engineering or Environmental Policy.
• Certification in nuclear safety or risk management (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Nuclear Engineer).
• Experience working with international regulatory bodies or in a multinational environment.
