What you'll do

• Conduct detailed safety analyses of nuclear reactor systems, including probabilistic risk assessments and deterministic safety evaluations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to identify safety-related design features and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Develop and maintain safety analysis documentation, including safety analysis reports, hazard analyses, and safety case justifications.
• Participate in safety reviews and assessments, providing technical expertise and recommendations to enhance safety protocols.
• Engage with regulatory bodies to facilitate the approval process for safety analysis submissions and ensure adherence to safety regulations.
• Analyze operational data and incident reports to identify trends and potential safety concerns, recommending corrective actions as needed.
• Support the development of safety culture initiatives within the organization, promoting awareness and understanding of safety principles among team members.
• Stay current with advancements in nuclear safety regulations, technologies, and best practices to inform safety analysis methodologies.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional development in the field of nuclear safety analysis.
• Prepare and deliver presentations on safety analysis findings to internal stakeholders and external regulatory agencies.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as operations and maintenance, to ensure a holistic approach to safety management.
• Participate in industry conferences and workshops to represent Terrestrial Energy and share insights on safety analysis practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in nuclear safety analysis or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong understanding of nuclear safety regulations, standards, and methodologies, including ASME, IEEE, and NRC guidelines.
• Proficiency in safety analysis tools and software, such as SAPHIRE, RELAP, or similar.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex systems and identify potential safety issues.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
• Experience working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating effective teamwork and leadership abilities.

Nice to have

• Experience with advanced reactor designs, such as small modular reactors (SMRs) or molten salt reactors.
• Familiarity with international safety standards and practices, such as those from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
• Previous experience in regulatory interactions or safety case development for nuclear projects.
• Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and tools beyond traditional safety analysis frameworks.
• Certification or training in safety management systems or risk analysis.
