About the role
Tenstorrent is on the lookout for a Staff Reliability Engineer who will play a pivotal role in shaping the reliability framework for our next-generation AI computing systems. This position demands a strong technical leader who will oversee the reliability process from the initial design phase all the way through to production. You will collaborate closely with teams across hardware, software, and manufacturing to ensure that our AI platforms not only meet but exceed industry standards for uptime and quality.

What you'll do
- Develop and implement a comprehensive reliability strategy for upcoming AI computing systems, which includes both data center and workstation products.
- Lead thorough investigations into any product failures, identifying root causes and driving the implementation of effective solutions across engineering and supply chain teams.
- Act as the primary liaison for manufacturing partners and suppliers, ensuring that all reliability standards are adhered to during the introduction of new products.
- Provide mentorship to fellow engineers, facilitating design reviews aimed at enhancing team performance and standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that reliability considerations are integrated throughout the product lifecycle.
- Analyze data from reliability tests and experiments to inform design decisions and improve product robustness.
- Create and maintain documentation related to reliability processes, including reports on findings and recommendations for improvements.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in reliability engineering to continuously enhance our practices.
Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in the field of reliability engineering, ideally with a focus on high-performance computing, AI hardware, or data center systems.
- Strong understanding of statistical reliability methods, including but not limited to HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing), HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening), ALT (Accelerated Life Testing), MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), Weibull analysis, and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
- Proficient in conducting thermal lab work and effectively communicating technical risks and trade-offs to leadership and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate efforts among diverse teams, including mechanical, electrical, thermal, and software engineers, especially under tight deadlines.
- Hands-on experience with advanced cooling technologies, such as vapor chambers, heat pipes, and direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential reliability issues.

- Experience with AI and machine learning systems, particularly in the context of hardware reliability.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements related to product reliability and safety.
- Knowledge of software reliability engineering practices and methodologies.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in roles focused on quality assurance or reliability testing.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in reliability analysis software and tools, such as ReliaSoft, Minitab, or equivalent.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to various audiences.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies to facilitate collaboration and ensure timely project delivery.
Practical notes
This position requires the candidate to be eligible for access to U.S. export-controlled technology. As such, employment offers will be contingent upon compliance with U.S. export laws, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). This may necessitate specific citizenship or permanent residency status, or prior license approval from the U.S. Commerce Department.
