About the role

Tailscale is on the lookout for a skilled technical professional to join our team as the inaugural Solutions Engineer in Singapore. This role is pivotal as we aim to expand our footprint across the Asia-Pacific region. You will collaborate closely with our sales teams to navigate intricate deals, design secure solutions, and serve as the primary technical advocate for our offerings in the marketplace.

What you'll do

• Formulate and implement regional technical strategies to enhance market presence and drive growth.
• Work in tandem with Account Executives to assess potential opportunities and oversee the sales pipeline effectively.
• Conduct discovery sessions, deliver product demonstrations, and manage technical proof of concepts to showcase our solutions.
• Write code and create custom integrations to address technical challenges faced by key clients.
• Gather and relay structured feedback to product and engineering teams, reflecting regional architectural trends and customer needs.
• Develop reusable demo environments, comprehensive whitepapers, and thorough documentation to support sales efforts.
• Collaborate with local customer-facing teams to foster a strong company culture and ensure effective service delivery.
• Engage in ongoing education and training to stay updated on industry trends and Tailscale's evolving product offerings.

Requirements

• A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in roles such as Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Solutions Architect, particularly within cloud, security, or networking sectors.
• Proven experience in an early-stage startup setting, demonstrating the ability to establish processes from the ground up.
• Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and firewall configurations.
• Familiarity with zero-trust networking concepts, secure connectivity solutions, and identity access management integrations like SSO, SAML, and OIDC.
• Practical experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, along with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Willingness to travel within the APAC region and occasionally to North America for internal meetings and conferences.
• Ability to work overlapping hours with North America and EMEA time zones for the first three months, and maintain collaboration thereafter.

Nice to have

• Experience with scripting languages or programming skills to enhance automation and integration capabilities.
• Previous involvement in customer-facing roles that required strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management tools.
• Knowledge of industry trends and competitive landscape in the networking and security sectors.

Skills & tools

• Networking: Proficient in TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and firewall management.
• Security: Knowledgeable in zero-trust frameworks and identity access management (IAM) protocols like SSO, SAML, and OIDC.
• Cloud/Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, as well as container orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Coding: Capability to contribute to codebases and develop custom integrations for client solutions.
