Developer Evangelist

About the role

You will own the narrative of what the Synthesia API makes possible in the hands of builders, translating platform capability into a clear and repeatable developer journey. This role requires you to act as both a high-signal storyteller and a hands-on builder who proves that the platform works in the wild. You will own the end-to-end experience of a developer from first awareness to sustained usage and feedback. You will translate raw product capability into living documentation, sample code, and public demonstrations that other teams can rely on. You will be the primary external channel for the product roadmap, ensuring that developer voices are heard inside the company. You will operate with autonomy, building systems and content that scale the reach of the API without constant supervision.

What you'll do

Write authoritative blog posts, step-by-step tutorials, and integration guides that show real working code, not marketing summaries.

Build and maintain production-grade sample apps, starter kits, and reusable code snippets across JavaScript, Python, and TypeScript frameworks.

Produce video walkthroughs and livestream code sessions using Synthesia itself to demonstrate features while "eating our own dog food."

Maintain a consistent publishing and demo cadence so that developer trust grows through reliability and predictable output.

Represent Synthesia at conferences, meetups, and hackathons, delivering workshops and manning booths with technical depth.

Host regular livestreams and community AMAs that address real implementation questions and troubleshooting challenges.

Travel to key developer hubs and industry events to be physically present where technical decisions are being made.

Get hands-on enough with the Synthesia API to debug integration issues side-by-side with developers and author code samples from memory.

Earn credibility by being genuinely useful before asking for commitment, building long-term relationships with influential developers.

Channel recurring friction points and feature requests back to Product and Engineering in a structured format that influences priorities.

Partner with Documentation and Developer Support to identify gaps in guidance that create support burden or block adoption.

Help prioritize the developer experience roadmap by synthesizing on-the-ground feedback into clear, actionable insights.

Grow and manage developer channels such as Discord and Slack, fostering peer-to-peer support and community-led learning.

Identify and mentor community advocates who can become co-speakers, case study authors, and early power users.

Measure the impact of your work through content engagement, API sign-ups, community growth, and sentiment to iterate on your playbook.

Requirements

Have experience in developer relations, technical evangelism, or a similar role at an API-first or platform company that values external communication.

Be genuinely hands-on with writing code, integrating APIs, and building demo applications rather than only describing features built by others.

Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to developer audiences clearly and authentically.

Be comfortable with frequent travel and public speaking, gaining energy from in-person interactions with technical communities.

Show a sustained record of output through blogs, videos, or community posts, understanding that evangelism is a long-term game where consistency builds trust.

Be an excellent listener who can absorb developer frustration and translate it into concrete signals for product and roadmap decisions.

Have the discipline to manage multiple streams of work, including content, community, and product collaboration, without losing context.

Nice to have

Experience with video production or live streaming technical content using tools like Synthesia or similar platforms.

Background in AI, video, or media workflows that provides additional credibility with technical users.

Contributions to open-source projects or public repositories that demonstrate engineering rigor and collaboration.

Prior experience in developer advocacy or evangelism roles at technology companies.

Practical notes

This role requires regular travel to developer communities and industry events, with associated time zone changes and schedule variability.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship for this position located in Seattle.

This position is full-time and based in Seattle, with potential for occasional remote work aligned with team agreements.
