About the role
At Super Sod, the CDL Driver role is critical to our logistics operations and customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for operating a commercial vehicle to transport live sod products safely and efficiently across assigned routes. This position requires strict adherence to pre-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is mechanically sound before departure. You will verify load securement and balance to protect product integrity and road safety throughout the journey. You are accountable for documenting delivery details and maintaining accurate records of miles, hours, and cargo condition. Clear communication with warehouse staff and customers is essential to coordinate drop-offs and resolve any issues promptly. You are expected to adhere to all company safety protocols and regulatory compliance standards while on duty. You will contribute to continuous improvement by providing feedback on routes, equipment, and operational procedures. You represent Super Sod professionally in every interaction and uphold the company's reputation in the communities you serve.
What you'll do
Coordinate delivery schedules and route planning to optimize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Perform thorough vehicle inspections and identify any maintenance needs before operating equipment.
Load and secure sod products using proper techniques to prevent shifting and damage during transit.
Monitor driving conditions and adjust speed and following distance to maintain safety standards.
Communicate with dispatch and customers to provide accurate arrival updates and service status.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the vehicle interior and work area after each assignment.
Complete trip logs, delivery receipts, and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
Conduct fuel checks and manage vehicle systems to support reliable operation and efficiency.
Assist with backhaul opportunities and trailer swaps when required to maximize asset utilization.
Support inventory checks and quality assessments to ensure product meets specifications.
Follow all company policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements while performing duties.
Participate in ongoing training and operational initiatives to enhance skills and performance.
Requirements
Hold a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for the role.
Possess a clean driving record and meet company safety standards for driving history.
Be at least 21 years of age to operate across state lines and meet regulatory requirements.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check as part of the hiring process.
Demonstrate the ability to lift, push, and pull sod materials safely in various working conditions.
Have reliable transportation to designated terminals and the flexibility to work scheduled shifts.
Maintain compliance with Department of Transportation hours-of-service regulations and company policies.
Show commitment to attendance and punctuality for all scheduled work assignments.
Nice to have
Previous experience in commercial driving or logistics operations.
Familiarity with route planning and delivery scheduling software.
Knowledge of turfgrass or landscape industry practices and terminology.
Ability to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Strong customer service skills and experience handling client inquiries.
Understanding of safety protocols and workplace hazard identification.
Practical notes
Travel: Local and regional routes may be required based on operational needs.
Visa: Not applicable for domestic positions.
