We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join Structuretx as an Associate Director to Director of Patents. This position is in shaping our intellectual property strategy and ensuring the protection of our innovative technologies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in patent law and a strong understanding of the biotechnology sector. This role is based in our Shanghai office, located in the Pudong District, where you will collaborate with a dynamic team dedicated to advancing our mission.

What you'll do
- Lead the development and execution of patent strategies that align with Structuretx's business objectives and innovation goals.
- Oversee the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent applications in various jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with local and international patent laws.
- Collaborate closely with R&D teams to identify and assess patentable inventions, providing guidance on patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
- Conduct thorough prior art searches and analyses to inform patent filing strategies and defend against potential infringement claims.
- Manage relationships with external patent counsel, ensuring that all patent-related activities are conducted efficiently and effectively.
- Monitor and analyze industry trends, competitor patent filings, and changes in patent law to inform strategic decision-making.
- Provide training and support to internal teams on patent-related matters, fostering a culture of innovation and intellectual property awareness.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management and stakeholders on patent portfolio status, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop and implement processes for the ongoing management and optimization of the patent portfolio, including maintenance and renewal strategies.
- Assist in due diligence activities related to mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships, evaluating the strength and value of patent assets.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and industry organizations to advocate for favorable patent policies and practices.
- Contribute to the overall strategic direction of Structuretx by participating in cross-functional teams and initiatives.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent legal qualification with a focus on intellectual property law.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sectors.
- Proven track record of successfully managing patent portfolios and navigating complex patent landscapes.
- Strong understanding of patent law, regulations, and best practices in both domestic and international contexts.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess complex technical information and translate it into actionable patent strategies.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in mentoring and guiding junior team members.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in patent management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
Nice to have
- Experience in licensing negotiations and intellectual property transactions.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the biotechnology industry, including FDA and EMA guidelines.
- Advanced degree in a scientific discipline, such as biology, chemistry, or engineering.
- Membership in relevant professional organizations, such as the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) or the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
