Requirements
This is a Staff-level role - that typically means 10+ years of experience building and shipping complex, user-facing web applications at large scale. Deep expertise in modern frontend development is required, with strong opinions on UI quality and the ability to execute to a high level of visual precision. A track record of driving measurable improvements to UI consistency and polish across large, distributed product surfaces is essential. Candidates must demonstrate mentorship experience by raising the quality bar for less experienced engineers through code review, implementation guidance, and pattern documentation. Strong collaboration skills are required to work effectively with cross-functional partners including designers, product managers, and backend engineers. Comfort with exploring and prototyping AI-powered experiences is a necessary part of this role, as is a commitment to maintaining and evolving the Stripe design system. You must be able to work closely with analytics and data teams to measure the impact of frontend changes on merchant behavior and business outcomes. A proven ability to balance tradeoffs between speed, quality, and maintainability in fast-paced production environments is mandatory.
Nice to have
Preferred qualifications include prior experience with AI agents in product interfaces and a history of contributing to open source or design systems at scale. Experience with financial products or regulatory constraints is beneficial but not required. Familiarity with experimentation platforms and performance optimization at scale is strongly preferred. Background in mentorship or leadership through code review, tech talks, or cross-team training is valued.
