Full Stack Engineer, Startup Products
Job description
About the role
You design, build, and maintain user-facing experiences, services, APIs, and systems that power Stripe Atlas and other products for founders around the world. You make effective tradeoffs that balance business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation while scrutinizing and reasoning clearly about technology and architecture choices. You talk directly with users - founders in the first days of starting their company - to learn how the product can better serve them. You debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack to keep the experience fast and reliable. You own end-to-end product experiences, from product design and architecture to writing lots of code, safely rolling out that code, and doing whatever is needed to ship products that help founders succeed. You care deeply about the user experience and take pride in building products that solve problems and delight users, and you thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and partners.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain user-facing experiences, services, APIs, and systems that underpin Stripe Atlas and related startup products.
- Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation for each product decision.
- Scrutinize and reason clearly about the technology and architecture choices we make in building these products over time.
- Talk with and learn from our users, especially founders in the first days of starting their company, to uncover pain points and opportunities.
- Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack to resolve problems quickly and prevent regressions.
- Own end-to-end product experiences, including product design, architecture, writing lots of code, safely rolling out that code, and performing whatever tasks are necessary to ship products.
- Help founders start and run a company from anywhere in the world by delivering tools that remove friction in their journey.
- Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, lawyers, and analysts to align on goals, constraints, and outcomes.
- Maintain a high quality bar and attention to detail, and help teammates deliver polished products that meet user needs.
- Prioritize simplicity in solutions and designs, and develop a good intuition for what will last and scale as the product grows.
- Contribute to a roadmap focused on the highest impact ships for founders, ensuring that each initiative advances our mission.
- Use data and user feedback to iterate quickly, validating assumptions and improving the product continuously.
- Write maintainable, well-tested code that can scale reliably as the user base and product complexity increase.
- Act as a generalist, working comfortably on both the frontend and backend to unblock work and deliver end-to-end outcomes.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of delivering real products.
- Enjoy being a generalist working on both the frontend and backend, shifting context fluidly to solve problems.
- Care deeply about the user experience and take pride in building products to solve problems and delight users.
- Prefer simple solutions and designs over complex ones, and have a good intuition for what will last and scale.
- Thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and partners, including designers, product managers, lawyers, and analysts.
- Have a high quality bar, attention to detail, and actively help teammates deliver polished products.
- Want to own end-to-end product experiences, including product design, architecture, writing lots of code, safely rolling out that code, and doing whatever is needed to ship products.
- Be comfortable working with users and stakeholders to validate ideas and adapt based on real-world feedback.
Nice to have
- Experience with startups and the challenges founders face in building and scaling a company.
- Prior experience with Ruby, Javascript/Typescript, React, and SQL for building and maintaining production-grade applications.
- A track record of building excellent products that users love and that achieve meaningful outcomes.
