About the role
You will join the SDK team at Stream with a core responsibility for developing and maintaining our React Chat, Feeds, and Video SDKs while driving them to the next level of performance and developer experience. In this role, you will design and implement new features aligned with our product roadmap and ensure the stability of existing functionality through rigorous testing and maintenance. You will engage directly with both existing customers and prospective users via multiple support channels to gather feedback and resolve SDK-related challenges. A significant part of your work will involve improving documentation, crafting clear examples, and keeping all SDKs up-to-date with modern best practices. Collaboration will be central as you work alongside backend engineers, designers, and other SDK teams to refine feature specifications and maintain consistency across implementations. You will also contribute to open-source projects, ensuring that our public SDKs remain robust, scalable, and trusted by the developer community. This role gives you ownership of complex technical decisions that directly impact thousands of engineers and billions of end users who rely on our infrastructure.

Requirements
- Comes from a startup background and has adapted to fast-paced, evolving environments before.
- Has 5+ years of professional software development experience working with modern frontend tools.
- Has experience contributing to open-source projects and building tools that other developers use.
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of React fundamentals, hooks, context, and component lifecycle patterns.
- Understands popular React libraries and ecosystems, including routing, state management, and UI component systems.
- Has a solid grasp of browser performance characteristics and how they affect real-world applications.
- Enjoys working with TypeScript and leverages strict type-checking to catch errors early.
- Pays close attention to UX details, with a strong focus on accessibility standards and inclusive design.
- Knows standard performance optimization techniques such as state management strategies, memoization, and virtualization.
