Senior Mobile Developer (React Native
Job description
About the role
You will own the end-to-end technical leadership for the strategic migration of a critical native Android application used by factory operators toward a unified React Native ecosystem. This role requires you to design and execute a brownfield migration using a strangler fig pattern to ensure zero operational disruption in demanding industrial environments. You will be responsible for defining and documenting architectural decisions, enforcing strict security and performance standards, and delivering a resilient, offline-first user experience. You will work with high autonomy, collaborating closely with Solution Architects, Backend Engineers, and QA partners to ensure alignment with business objectives. Additionally, you will mentor junior developers and actively shape the engineering culture around quality, clarity, and product thinking.
Key facts
What you'll do
Design and implement the brownfield migration path from native Android Kotlin to a React Native application, minimizing risk and operational impact using a strangler fig strategy.
Define and document architectural decision records (ADRs) to establish a modular architecture based on Clean Architecture and adapted MVVM patterns for React Native.
Act as the technical owner of the monorepo standards, extending and respecting the contracts of the optimus-core TypeScript library as the single source of truth.
Consume and integrate IoT data streams from AWS IoT Core and MQTT brokers, prioritizing resilience, low latency, and efficient battery usage on industrial devices.
Build robust offline-first capabilities, including local caching, synchronization queues, and automatic retry mechanisms to support production lines with unstable connectivity.
Implement secure authentication flows using AWS Cognito and OIDC, integrating with cloud services such as API Gateway and Lambda functions.
Establish and enforce mobile security standards and regulatory compliance, focusing on secure token storage, code hardening, and adherence to OWASP Mobile Application Security Verification Standard (MASVS).
Define, configure, and maintain a fully automated CI/CD pipeline for mobile, covering builds, code signing, and distribution via Firebase App Distribution or GitHub Actions.
Drive shift-left testing practices by writing and maintaining unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using Jest and React Native Testing Library.
Set up observability and crash reporting pipelines using tools such as Sentry, Crashlytics, and CloudWatch to ensure rapid detection and resolution of production issues.
Participate actively in all Scrum ceremonies, including Planning, Daily Standups, Refinement, Reviews, and Retrospectives to ensure continuous improvement.
Perform rigorous code reviews to uphold code quality, consistency, and architectural integrity across the mobile codebase.
Collaborate with backend and IoT teams to align data contracts, API schemas, and integration patterns, ensuring seamless interoperability.
Act as the primary authority on mobile performance, reliability, and security, guiding the team through complex problem-solving and trade-off analysis.
Serve as the migration lead, coordinating timelines, dependencies, and delivery milestones to ensure on-time production deployment.
Requirements
+3 years of proven professional experience in native mobile development using Android (Kotlin), with a demonstrable portfolio or reference project.
Demonstrated experience in executing migration or modernization projects in brownfield environments, not only in greenfield scenarios.
Strong and advanced knowledge of React Native, including TypeScript, hooks, React Navigation, and global state management solutions such as Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or MobX.
Experience implementing local storage strategies such as SQLite, Realm, AsyncStorage, or MMKV, along with offline-first synchronization logic.
Solid experience integrating with RESTful APIs, distributed architectures, and authentication protocols including OAuth2, OIDC, and JWT, especially in AWS environments.
Familiarity with cloud environments is desirable, with specific mention of AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, S3, and CloudWatch.
Configuration of mobile CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Fastlane, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or CircleCI, along with testing frameworks like Jest and React Native Testing Library.
Advanced technical English for reading architectural specifications, documentation, and code repositories.
Nice to have
Previous experience within the industrial IoT sector, automation, or integration with sensors, SCADA systems, or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
Understanding of manufacturing business processes, metrics such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and key plant KPIs including availability, performance, quality, downtime, and scrap rate.
Practical experience with protocols such as MQTT and AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT Greengrass, or edge computing frameworks.
Development of custom native modules (bridges) and optimization of performance on industrial Android devices.
Experience working with monorepo structures managed through Turborepo, pnpm, or Nx.
Knowledge of security standards and regulations relevant to industrial environments such as ISO 27001 and IEC 62443.
Practical notes
This is a contract position with remote work available from Argentina.
The engagement is based on a long-term commitment with high autonomy and significant technical impact.
Candidates must be able to start promptly and work within the outlined contractual terms.
Travel is not required, but occasional onsite collaboration may be considered based on project needs.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Candidates are expected to adhere strictly to the timelines and milestones defined for the migration project.
