The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist will play a vital role in establishing, maintaining, and improving the company's safety and environmental policies. This individual will ensure that all operations comply with applicable regulations, promote a safety-first culture, and support the organization in managing risks associated with aerospace testing and manufacturing activities. The role involves developing safety programs, conducting inspections, providing training, and working closely with regulatory agencies to uphold the highest safety standards across all facilities and operational sites.

What you'll do

• Develop, review, and continuously improve EH&S policies and procedures tailored to the aerospace testing environment.
• Conduct comprehensive safety inspections and assessments across all facilities, including manufacturing, testing, and support areas, to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Provide safety training sessions and educational resources to employees and contractors, fostering a culture of safety awareness and proactive risk management.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses thoroughly to determine root causes, document findings, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Perform hazard analyses for specific jobs, tasks, and operational areas to identify potential risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Support manufacturing and operational teams by providing EH&S guidance, resources, and best practices to ensure safe work environments.
• Collaborate with regulatory agencies such as Cal/OSHA, EPA, and DOT during inspections, audits, and compliance activities, maintaining accurate documentation of all safety-related activities.
• Maintain detailed records of safety audits, training sessions, incident investigations, and compliance activities to support internal and external reporting requirements.
• Promote a safety-oriented culture by engaging employees at all levels, encouraging reporting of hazards, and recognizing safety achievements.
• Assist in emergency preparedness planning, including developing response procedures, conducting drills, and ensuring readiness for potential incidents.
• Stay current with changes in federal, state, and local EH&S regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to aerospace manufacturing and testing.
• Support environmental compliance efforts, including waste management, emissions control, and pollution prevention initiatives.
• Provide expert advice on the safe operation of equipment and vehicles used within the facility, including company vehicles.
• Assist with the implementation of ITAR regulations and ensure compliance with export control laws as applicable.
• Participate in safety committees and cross-functional teams to integrate EH&S considerations into operational planning and project development.
• Contribute to the development of safety metrics and reporting systems to track safety performance and identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

• An associate degree or higher in an EH&S-related field, along with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a minimum of 10 years of experience working in environmental health and safety roles within manufacturing or aerospace environments.
• Proven experience developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs and policies aligned with regulatory standards.
• Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA standards, DOT requirements, and other applicable federal, state, and local safety laws.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate hazards, incidents, and safety data, with the ability to develop effective mitigation strategies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat for documentation, reporting, and training purposes.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of delivering safety training, conducting inspections, and collaborating with diverse teams and regulatory agencies.
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical inspections for extended periods, often in manufacturing or testing environments.
• Experience working with safety management systems and incident reporting tools.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance practices, including waste management and pollution control.
• Familiarity with the aerospace industry's safety requirements and operational hazards.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple safety initiatives simultaneously.

Nice to have

• Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or OSHA 30/40-hour training.
• Experience working in aerospace, manufacturing, or high-tech testing environments.
• Familiarity with ITAR regulations, export controls, and security protocols relevant to aerospace technology.

• The hourly wage for this position ranges from $47.00 to $61.88, with the potential for an annual bonus of up to 10%.
