Stratolaunch is on the lookout for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist II to bolster our safety measures and ensure adherence to applicable regulations. This position is pivotal in formulating and executing EH&S policies, conducting thorough inspections, and providing essential training to our workforce. You will be instrumental in fostering a safe working environment while contributing to our advancements in hypersonic technology.

What you'll do

• Develop and enhance EH&S policies and procedures tailored to the organization's needs.
• Ensure that all health and safety regulations are strictly followed and maintained.
• Research and interpret regulatory requirements from agencies such as Cal/OSHA, the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
• Act as a key resource for both manufacturing and operations teams regarding safety practices.
• Conduct industrial hygiene sampling and evaluate exposure levels to ensure compliance.
• Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses, while analyzing trends to prevent future occurrences.
• Implement and maintain effective EH&S programs and procedures across the organization.
• Perform job hazard assessments and area hazard evaluations to identify potential risks.
• Support the execution of test hazard analyses and carry out inspections of facilities to ensure safety compliance.
• Facilitate training sessions and safety meetings aimed at educating operational teams on best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Requirements

• A minimum of an associate degree in a relevant field, or a higher qualification, coupled with at least 4 years of experience in the EH&S domain, or alternatively, 6 years of pertinent work experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat for documentation and reporting purposes.
• Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying regulations from agencies such as Cal/OSHA and the EPA.
• Proven track record in developing comprehensive written safety programs and policies.
• Strong mathematical abilities to support data analysis and reporting.
• Physical capability to stand or walk for more than 50% of the workday.
• Relevant safety or environmental certifications are a plus.
• Ability to obtain a high security clearance, which may be required for certain responsibilities.

Nice to have

• Experience in the aerospace or defense industry, particularly in safety roles.
• Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and tools.
• Knowledge of environmental management systems and sustainability practices.
• Previous experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective training delivery.

Practical notes

• This position is based in Mojave, California.
• The hourly wage for this role ranges from $40.00 to $52.50, with the potential for an annual bonus of up to 10%.

About the company
