What you'll do
- Own the lifecycle and software configuration of our HIL and ground support equipment (GSE) to ensure seamless integration across our unified Vehicle Software stack.
- Develop automated systems to track hardware deployments and dynamically generate standardized software configurations across the fleet.
- Partner with hardware teams to design, build, and integrate GSE racks and checkout carts for test and launch operations.
- Write software that interfaces directly with physical ground infrastructure, including automating networks, ground computers, DAQs, and power supplies.
- Act as the technical bridge between software and hardware disciplines, executing hands-on checkouts and troubleshooting anomalies to get Nova to the pad.
- Support hardware teams and help the Vehicle Software team prioritize feature requests based on their operational needs.
- Contribute to the architecture and implementation of checkout cart designs that streamline vehicle processing at the pad.
- Maintain and evolve test procedures and automation scripts to keep pace with rapid vehicle development and changing mission requirements.
Requirements
- 1+ years of professional experience in software, firmware, or systems engineering on complex hardware systems.
- 1+ years of experience writing Python or similar scripting languages for automation and integration tasks.
- 1+ years of experience working with real-time systems or control software in a hardware-in-the-loop context.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, UDP, VLANs, and routing as they apply to ground systems.
- Familiarity with version control workflows using Git and collaborative development practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and integration diagrams.
- Willingness to work hands-on with tools, test equipment, and prototype hardware in a lab or shop environment.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where launch schedules drive urgency.
Nice to have
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code principles applied to test and integration environments.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools.
- Experience with data acquisition systems and sensor integration for test and validation workflows.
- Knowledge of aerospace ground support standards and best practices.
- Experience working with redundant or safety-critical system architectures.
About the role
The Software Integration Engineer
HIL position serves as the critical translation layer between Vehicle Software development, physical vehicle systems, and operations teams. You will own the software configuration and lifecycle management for HIL and GSE, ensuring that test, checkout, and launch environments remain synchronized with vehicle software updates. This role requires deep collaboration with hardware, software, and operations teams to design, build, and maintain the infrastructure that enables rapid integration testing and pre-launch checkout. You will implement automated frameworks for configuration generation, directly script interactions with ground computers, DAQs, networks, and power systems, and troubleshoot anomalies in real time to keep the vehicle on schedule for launch. The role demands extreme ownership, rapid iteration, and hands-on problem solving in a hardware-rich, fast-paced environment.
