Stoke Space builds Nova, a fully and rapidly reusable launch vehicle designed for daily flight. This role focuses on mechanical development for avionics packaging and launch vehicle integration. You will own the mechanical story for flight avionics from requirement to launch day. Your contributions enable a scalable space economy that benefits Earth. You work with a mission-driven, collaborative team that values ownership, speed, and simplicity. You will translate complex system requirements into robust mechanical solutions that survive the harsh journey to space. You will act as the mechanical authority for avionics ensuring every bracket, standoff, and conduit aligns with flight objectives. Your analysis will directly influence manufacturing decisions and verification strategies that de-risk the program. You will partner closely with electrical, software, and mission assurance teams to deliver an integrated avionics suite.

What you will do
Create packaging concepts that shield delicate electronics during launch and orbital operations.
Draft harness routing and secondary structures that endure launch vehicle loads while remaining manufacturable.
Conduct thermal and structural checks using calculations and simulation to confirm reliable assembly performance.
Investigate component failures across thermal, load, vibration, and shock conditions to guide corrective actions.
Coordinate with machine shops and production teams to align designs with processes and flight hardware timelines.
Guide hardware from early concepts through assembly, testing, and integration to protect delivery schedules.
Lead design reviews with internal teams and external partners to validate approaches and decisions.
Drive continuous improvement efforts that increase throughput and reduce unit cost to support launch cadence targets.
Evaluate vendor proposals and in-house processes to ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards.
Develop test procedures that verify the mechanical integrity of avionics enclosures and mounting strategies.
Model dynamic responses of electronics to ensure functionality across all flight phases and mission events.
Champion design for manufacturability to streamline production and minimize rework on the factory floor.
Maintain detailed technical records that capture decisions, trade studies, and verification results for audits.
Support the formulation of hardware baselines that balance performance, risk, and program schedule.
Requirements
Earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
Bring three or more years of professional mechanical or electromechanical design and analysis experience.
Use parametric 3D CAD and 2D drawing tools to define detailed geometry and tolerances.
Take hardware from concept to design, analysis, manufacturing, and test successfully.
Apply structural and thermal analysis fundamentals using calculations and FEA tools.
Follow GD&T practices per ASME Y14.5 in documentation and definitions.
Understand machining, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing implications.
Demonstrate a disciplined approach to documenting design inputs, outputs, and verification traceability.
Adhere to company processes, standards, and safety protocols without compromising delivery goals.
Commit to working effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with evolving priorities.
Show capability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy under tight project constraints.
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to interface with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Willingness to travel as required for project meetings, test campaigns, and supplier engagements.
Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances if required for program access.
Nice to have
Hands-on experience with NX or comparable CAD and Ansys or comparable FEA for complex assemblies.
Perform structural, modal, and tolerance stack analysis for moving electromechanical systems.
Conduct thermal analysis for avionics and electronics inside harsh environments.
Design electronics and component packaging for extreme conditions including vacuum, vibration, temperature extremes, and shock.
Route harnesses and shape secondary structure to meet mass, reliability, and accessibility goals.
Collaborate with PCB designers while respecting layout constraints and integration rules.
Apply low-volume, high-mix production design principles to qualification and flight units.
Test electromechanical assemblies against vibration, shock, thermal, and fatigue conditions.
Plan and execute qualification and acceptance test campaigns from start to finish.
Work self-directed, organized, and detail-focused while communicating clearly in writing and speech.
