What you'll do
- Develop and maintain backend services using Kotlin and Python, ensuring high performance and stability.
- Create event-driven architectures that link internal systems with marketing channels and Customer Data Platforms.
- Manage the collection, transformation, and activation of user data to ensure high performance and accuracy.
- Lead technical design discussions and provide mentorship to other engineers on the team.
- Work with product, marketing, and data teams to align software solutions with company objectives.
- Monitor system reliability, security, and observability through testing and CI/CD improvements.
- Support frontend tasks or monolithic application maintenance when required to meet delivery goals.
- Use AI tools to enhance code quality and individual developer output in daily workflows.
- Implement data processing workflows that handle large volumes of information with precision.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define requirements and translate them into technical tasks.
- Optimize database queries and data pipelines to reduce latency and improve user experience.
- Document system behavior and architecture decisions to support long-term maintainability.
- Participate in on-call rotations to respond to production incidents and support operations.

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in a relevant field.
- Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, and Python for building scalable and maintainable systems.
- Practical knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems for effective data handling.
- Background in building scalable backend infrastructure and event-driven systems is essential.
- Experience with cloud environments, specifically AWS, to deploy and manage services.
- Familiarity with streaming and messaging tools like Kafka for real-time data processing.
- Strong ability to communicate and collaborate across different departments and teams.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices for clean code.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and diagnose problems in production environments.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools, frameworks, and business requirements.
- Commitment to writing tests and maintaining high standards of code quality.
- Capacity to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks and projects.
- Respect for data privacy and awareness of relevant data handling regulations.
- Fluency in English is required for effective communication within the team.

- Familiarity with MarTech ecosystems and Customer Data Platforms such as Segment, Braze, Salesforce, or Hightouch.

- Experience building AI-driven workflows, LLM integrations, or AI agents to enhance product capabilities.
- Knowledge of frontend technologies that allow you to support UI components when necessary.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of data governance and compliance practices in global environments.
- Background in mobile data integration or working with mobile SDKs and tracking solutions.
- Familiarity with analytics platforms and digital measurement concepts.

- This is a full-time position with hybrid work arrangements available between Hamburg and Berlin.
