Senior Full-Stack Engineer
Job description
About the Role
You will own and build the customer-facing layer of our platform: a portfolio of data intelligence products for hospitals, as well as the shared application framework beneath them. As the senior technical lead for this area, you will operate with high agency, designing how data is queried, cached, and visualized to meet the needs of healthcare decision-makers. You will work directly with domain experts to translate complex methodology into intuitive, high-impact products that are both accurate and actionable. This role involves architecting end-to-end solutions where data access, performance, and clarity converge in a cohesive user experience. You will be responsible for establishing engineering standards and technical direction that shape the long-term success of the data intelligence portfolio. Your work will directly influence how hospitals and analysts interact with critical benchmarks and comparisons on a global scale.
Key Facts
What you'll do
- End-to-End Product Ownership: Architect, build, and maintain data intelligence applications from database query contracts down to interactive UI components.
- Framework & API Layer: Build and own the shared application API layer, composing underlying platform services and published data models into stable contracts.
- Data-Access & Performance Strategy: Design robust caching, materialization, pagination, and streaming patterns to serve complex analytics from cloud data warehouses with low latency and optimized compute cost.
- Advanced Data Visualization: Build interactive, non-standard visualization interfaces such as hospital performance benchmarking and peer comparison views, and establish reusable patterns for the broader portfolio.
- AI-Mediated Interfaces: Implement natural language and LLM-driven application surfaces, including retrieval workflows, tool integration, structured outputs, streaming, and evaluation of latency and cost.
- Technical Leadership: Shape application architecture, set engineering standards, drive testing discipline, and mentor joining engineers to ensure consistent quality and alignment.
- Cross-Collaboration: Partner closely with data platform teams, product managers, and domain specialists to align implementation with evolving business objectives and data capabilities.
Requirements
Core Requirements (Must-Haves)
- Full-Stack TypeScript: Deep production experience across both client (React / Next.js) and server (Node.js using Fastify, Express, or NestJS).
- Advanced Data Visualization: Hands-on experience building custom, interactive visualizations (working with scales, layouts, coordinate systems directly using D3.js alongside Visx, ECharts, or Vega-Lite) and choosing appropriate render targets such as SVG, Canvas, or WebGL.
- Analytical SQL & Warehouse Caching: Strong analytical SQL skills including window functions, CTEs, and multi-level aggregations, plus practical experience designing materialization and caching strategies over columnar cloud warehouses.
- Client-Side State & Data Management: Expertise with client-side caching, request coalescing, streaming, and table virtualization using tools such as TanStack Query, SWR, or similar state management approaches.
- Architecture & Abstraction: Proven track record of building reusable abstractions, such as shared API layers, component libraries, or design systems, consumed by other engineers across multiple projects.
- Product and UX Focus: Strong product-focused and UX-driven mindset, with a proven ability to translate complex analytical data models and methodology into intuitive, high-performance visual interfaces that support real decision-making.
- Communication and Collaboration: Fluent in English to collaborate effectively with global teams, and capable of clearly articulating technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Reliability and Ownership: Demonstrated ability to see features through from build to launch and iteration, taking full ownership of product outcomes in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
Nice to Haves (What Will Make You Stand Out)
- LLM & AI Application Engineering: Practical experience integrating LLMs into production workflows, including retrieval or RAG, tool calls, streaming responses, and evaluation metrics for cost and latency.
- Multi-Tenant Security: Experience implementing robust, enterprise-grade authorization models where strict data segregation and confidentiality between organizations or users are paramount.
- Production Observability & AWS: Familiarity with running microservices on AWS, with an emphasis on telemetry, structured logging, CI/CD pipelines, and performance monitoring to ensure reliability at scale.
Your Profile
- Degree: Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related technical field that provides a strong foundation for building complex data products.
- Experience: 5+ years in full-stack software engineering building data-dense web applications, custom interactive visualizations, and customer-facing products, including a sustained period within one organization where you see a product through build, launch, and iteration.
- Domain Knowledge: Healthcare or benchmarking domain experience is a plus, such as basic understanding of healthcare KPIs, quality metrics, or benchmarking concepts, and familiarity with hospital decision-making, performance reporting, or medical data workflows adds particular value.
- Mindset: Strong product-focused and UX-driven mindset, with a proven ability to balance analytical depth with clarity in interface design, ensuring that complex methodologies remain interpretable and actionable for users.
- Languages: Fluent in English, with German being a beneficial additional skill for collaboration with local stakeholders and partners.
- Working Style: Highly structured, detail-oriented, and disciplined in your approach to engineering and product delivery, ensuring that solutions are maintainable, testable, and aligned with long-term platform strategy.
