About the role
Join Starpath Robotics at Future Factory to manufacture highly precise components for advanced space robotics applications. This role involves setting up, programming, and operating CNC milling machines to produce complex parts that meet strict aerospace standards. You will be integral to the manufacturing process, ensuring parts are machined accurately and efficiently. The position requires a focus on craftsmanship, problem-solving, and maintaining high-quality standards. You will work closely with engineering teams to interpret drawings and specifications, troubleshoot machine issues, and optimize machining processes. This is an on-site role based at Future Factory, where you will contribute to the development of next-generation space technology.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Set up and operate 3-axis CNC mills, 4th-axis rotary, and 5-axis CNC machines for manufacturing aerospace robotics parts.
- Modify, troubleshoot, and refine HAAS G-code programs to ensure precision machining.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD/CAM models, and GD&T specifications to develop detailed machining plans.
- Perform machine setups, including preparing fixtures, changing tools, and setting offsets to ensure accurate machining operations.
- Conduct inspections of machined parts after each operation using various inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Maintain detailed documentation, including print mark-ups, saved programs, setup sheets, and tool lists for traceability and repeatability.
- Select appropriate tooling and optimize machining parameters such as speeds and feeds to improve efficiency and extend tool life.
- Assist with general shop tasks including saw cutting raw materials, deburring machined parts, grinding, and using pneumatic tools.
- Keep the work environment organized, clean, and safe to promote efficiency and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot machine issues, perform minor repairs, and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and quality.
- Mentor and support team members, sharing best practices and technical knowledge to foster a collaborative shop environment.
- Assist with product assembly and other manufacturing tasks as needed to support the overall production process.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning and minor repairs, to ensure machines operate reliably and efficiently.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve machining challenges and improve part quality.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize machining processes, reduce waste, and increase throughput.
- Maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance with all safety regulations during machine operation and shop activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-5 years of experience in CNC machining, specifically in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of 3-axis CNC milling operations and programming.
- Familiarity with HAAS controls (both new and old styles) and G-code programming, or a willingness to learn these systems, including HAAS UMC 750 & VF-series.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs without assistance and perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, grasping, and pulling frequently.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in machining and inspection tasks.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and CAD/CAM models accurately.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machine issues effectively.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain documentation and shop cleanliness.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to comply with export regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Willingness to learn new skills and participate in ongoing training.
Nice to have
- Over 5 years of CNC machining experience, especially in aerospace or high-precision manufacturing.
- Experience setting up fixtures and operating multi-axis CNC mills, including 4th and 5th-axis machines.
- Strong background in complex surfacing, contours, and aerospace-grade components.
- Proven ability to improve manufacturing processes for increased productivity, quality, and repeatability.
- Knowledge of feeds, speeds, and tooling options for materials such as 6061/7075 aluminum, stainless steel (300/400 series), Inconel, and plastics.
- Experience mentoring junior machinists or leading shop projects.
- Exposure to 5-axis machining processes and multi-axis programming.
- Familiarity with inspection equipment such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and other metrology tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.

Compensation ranges from $25-$32 per hour for Level 1 machinists and $32-$40 per hour for Level 2, depending on experience and interview performance.
