Position Overview

The firm seeks a Senior Water Resources Engineer for its teams in Chicago, IL; Minneapolis, MN; or Muscatine, IA. This role operates in a hybrid environment. The position carries Requisition ID 11136. The selected engineer will join a multidisciplinary team including water resource, geotechnical, structural, and civil engineers. They will deliver water resource engineering projects focused on hydraulic and hydrologic systems, stormwater management and treatment, navigation, flood risk reduction, riverine restoration, and site improvement initiatives. These projects serve clients on national and international scales.

Core Responsibilities

The Senior Water Resources Engineer will lead teams in technical analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of existing and proposed river and site conditions. They will oversee the design, preparation of construction documents, reports, and cost estimates. Project scopes cover water resources, Federal, environmental, structural, and energy initiatives.

Key project development tasks include hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, 1-D and 2-D river and flood modeling, ponding and detention area sizing and design, streambank stabilization, civil design layout, grading and drainage, utility layout and design, and low impact development feature layout and design. The role requires strong project management capabilities. The ability to work directly with clients during project development is essential.

Field work and domestic and international travel may be necessary. The ideal candidate will lead and mentor younger engineers and technical staff. They will guide technical decisions across municipal and federal initiatives. Growth toward task management, project management, and team leadership responsibilities is expected.

Compensation and Location Details

The position is located in Minneapolis, MN. Stanley Consultants offers a competitive compensation package. The base salary is $108,000.00 per year. Candidate qualifications determine pay within this range. The role may credit up to 5 years of relevant experience for pay determination.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold a minimum of 3 years of experience in water resources engineering or related fields. Demonstrated advanced skill with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software for river and drainage systems is mandatory. The engineer must prepare design layouts, grading plans, and drainage configurations for varied project types. Willingness to travel within the country and occasionally abroad for project support and site visits is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with river restoration or navigation projects provides a distinct advantage for complex assignments. Proficiency in civil modeling software, hydraulic analysis programs, design and drafting tools, and report preparation platforms is necessary. A strong sense of community and ethical practice guides all engineering contexts.
