Position Overview
The Senior Transportation Engineer role is based in the DeBary, Florida office and operates under a hybrid schedule. This position is instrumental in owning and delivering complex transportation projects for a growing state program. The successful candidate will provide full engineering expertise for highway initiatives, including comprehensive roadway studies and design, drainage systems, preliminary and final design, construction document preparation, cost estimation, project scheduling, and the management of large, intricate highway corridors. Key responsibilities include strategic leadership in client interactions, coordination with contractors and subconsultants, mentorship of junior personnel, and active contribution to business development within the transportation market. Participation in professional organizations and technical committees is expected to foster continuous improvement and elevate office capabilities.
Compensation and Eligibility
This is a full-time, hybrid position with a salary range of seventy thousand to ninety thousand dollars per year. Employment is contingent upon eligibility to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship. A valid driver's license is mandatory for this role.
Core Responsibilities
You will lead intricate transportation projects from initial client contact through meticulous delivery. Daily responsibilities involve balancing field investigations, data verification, and precise documentation for demanding highway contracts. You will guide emerging engineers while crafting proposals that secure difficult transportation work.
Specific duties include championing the intake of new highway assignments and thoroughly clarifying client requirements before project inception. You will shape evolving project scopes and select appropriate methodologies for drainage and roadway design. Conducting rigorous reviews of construction documents is essential to verify adherence to standards and eliminate coordination gaps. Close coordination with partners will ensure alignment of schedules, effective change management, and the smooth progression of critical corridors. You will drive proposals for transportation markets by preparing accurate cost data and strategic responses. Project quality will be safeguarded through diligent tracking of budgets, timelines, and regulatory compliance across all engagements. Mentoring junior staff will be conducted through hands-on guidance that strengthens technical confidence and sound decision-making. Active promotion of participation in professional committees and transportation initiatives will enhance the office's technical capabilities.
Required Qualifications
You must hold a valid driver's license and be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of transportation experience focused on complex highway corridors. Demonstrated ability to prepare drainage systems, preliminary designs, and detailed construction documents is mandatory. Sound judgment is critical for accurately estimating costs, scheduling tasks, and managing multiple concurrent projects effectively.
