What you'll do

Lead the technical development of transportation projects, including roadway studies, geometric design, and drainage systems.

Perform detailed preliminary and final design for highway corridors, ensuring alignment with client objectives and regulatory standards.

Prepare comprehensive construction documents, specifications, and quantity takeoffs for large, complex projects.

Develop accurate cost estimates and unit price analyses to support proposal efforts and client decision-making.

Create realistic project schedules and manage critical path activities to meet firm and client deadlines.

Champion quality assurance and quality control processes to deliver error-free and code-compliant deliverables.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil planners, structures experts, and environmental specialists, to integrate project requirements.

Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and subconsultants to clarify expectations, resolve issues, and maintain strong partnerships.

Support the pursuit of new business by developing responsive proposals, bid strategies, and technical responses.

Mentor emerging engineers by providing guidance, technical coaching, and constructive feedback on project deliverables.

Represent the firm in professional forums, technical committees, and industry events to strengthen our market presence.

Identify opportunities to apply innovative practices and emerging technologies to improve project delivery and outcomes.

Assist in the development and maintenance of project scopes, ensuring alignment with client needs and resource capabilities.

Act as a project advocate, balancing competing demands of cost, schedule, quality, and risk to achieve optimal solutions.

Requirements

You must hold a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing, with a specialization in Transportation Engineering.

You must possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

You must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in transportation engineering or a related field.

You must demonstrate expertise in highway design, geometric layout, traffic analysis, and drainage design principles.

You must be proficient in using current design software, modeling tools, and office productivity suites essential to engineering practice.

You must have a strong understanding of federal, state, and local transportation regulations, standards, and design manuals.

You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear, concise, and technically accurate documents.

You must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and high-quality output.

Nice to have

Preferred experience with large, complex highway corridors and urban transportation projects.

Familiarity with project management software and tools used for scheduling and resource tracking.

Experience supporting business development activities, including proposal preparation and technical presentations.

Practical notes

This role is hybrid, requiring a combination of remote work and onsite presence at the Salt Lake City office.

Travel may be required to visit project sites, meet with stakeholders, or attend professional engagements.
