About the Position
The successful candidate will oversee traffic engineering projects from initial concept through final implementation. This responsibility includes conducting comprehensive analyses and making critical design choices. The primary focus is enhancing transportation safety for clients across Iowa. The role involves converting intricate traffic data into coherent, actionable strategies. Solutions must balance vehicle flow with pedestrian needs and community expectations. Consideration for long-term infrastructure vision is essential to this position.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for creating future street layouts and optimizing signal timing plans. This work utilizes advanced engineering software and traffic simulation tools. A core function is analyzing traffic movement counts and historical crash data. This analysis identifies dangerous locations and proposes effective safety improvements. You will serve as a primary contact for public agencies and partner consultants. Coordination ensures that project goals and technical data align perfectly. Creating clear, comprehensive reports is a daily task. These documents explain methods, assumptions, and proposed recommendations. You will translate complex technical findings for various audiences. This ensures community groups and decision-makers understand the proposed actions. The role involves selecting appropriate design treatments for intersections, corridors, and local areas. These selections are based on specific context and project objectives. You will also develop logical sequences of project tasks. This coordination is necessary with other internal teams and external partners. The position requires guiding documents through multiple client review stages. Incorporating feedback while preserving technical precision is a critical skill.
Basic Qualifications
A current Professional Engineering license is mandatory in at least one US state or territory. Candidates must bring a minimum of three years of professional experience. This experience should be in transportation planning or design engineering. A strong grasp of established design standards is required. You must be familiar with safety analysis methodologies and traffic operations theory. Proficiency with common traffic analysis software programs is necessary. The ability to interpret complex datasets and draw valid conclusions is required. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are non-negotiable. You must convey technical concepts with clarity and precision.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with specific analysis tools or design codes is advantageous. This is particularly relevant if your background aligns with project descriptions. Familiarity with MicroStation, PTV Vistro, and AutoCAD is recognized as valuable.
