- Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and ambitious Transportation Principal Engineer and Project Manager to join our Austin, TX office. This role is ideal for a professional who is energetic, client-focused, and connected with contractors and subconsultants in the A/E/C industry. In this position, you will provide expert engineering and project management leadership on complex highway projects. Your responsibilities will include roadway studies and design, drainage and utility systems, preliminary and final design, preparation of construction documents, cost estimates, project scheduling, and the overall management of large, complex highway corridors.
This position presents exciting challenges and significant opportunities. You will be instrumental in developing our Texas program while overseeing all project activities. Key duties include mentoring young staff engineers and actively participating in professional organizations and technical committees. Your efforts will directly support market business development and expansion.
Key Responsibilities**
You will own complex transportation projects from initial client contact through successful final delivery. Your leadership will drive coordinated execution across multidisciplinary teams while shaping strategic market approaches. This role is central to creating durable infrastructure solutions for communities that are constantly evolving.
- Orchestrating intake sessions to clarify project scope for highway corridors and drainage initiatives.
- Designing build strategies that effectively integrate drainage systems with roadway layouts for preliminary concepts.
- Coordinating review cycles with contractors and subconsultants to ensure alignment of schedules and deliverables.
- Managing ship preparations for construction documents and cost data for major transportation programs.
- Forging strategic partner pathways with transportation clients to support market expansion and opportunity pursuit.
- Championing rigorous quality checks on utility systems and drainage layouts before final documentation release.
- Guiding emerging engineers through hands-on mentorship while tracking critical project metrics and timelines.
- Updating stakeholders on transportation project progress using clear schedules and resource plans.
Requirements
- You hold a valid professional engineering license relevant to transportation contexts.
- You bring a minimum of 10 years of experience directing transportation design and project oversight.
- You demonstrate mastery of highway projects, including roadway studies and preliminary design.
- You possess a proven ability to prepare construction documents and detailed cost estimates for complex corridors.
- You have extensive experience managing project scheduling, communications, and resources for large-scale infrastructure efforts.
Nice to Have
Experience in supporting transportation market business development is highly valued. Active participation in professional organizations and technical committees is also considered a strong asset.
