We are currently seeking a Design Manager / Senior Engineer to join our teams in Austin, TX; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO (Centennial); Des Moines, IA; Minneapolis, MN; or Muscatine, IA. This is a hybrid position. The Requisition ID is 11259. In this role, you will partner with a Project Manager as a senior project leader. The position may also be titled Project Engineer.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise in power generation. You will own the full design workflow from initial intake through final delivery. Your leadership will guide intricate power systems through meticulous coordination and execution. We develop integrated solutions for federal energy clients, ensuring all approaches meet stringent standards. You will align cross-functional disciplines to overcome obstacles and drive sustainable infrastructure results.

Your primary responsibilities will include facilitating intake sessions to define project objectives and capture critical requirements for energy infrastructure. You will architect system designs that merge generation hardware with control mechanisms and distribution networks. A thorough review of technical documentation will be essential to confirm accuracy, standards adherence, and clarity for downstream teams.

You will deliver finalized design packages that fulfill contractual obligations, schedule targets, and quality metrics. Close collaboration with Project Managers is required to optimize resources, monitor advancement, and adjust plans against established milestones. You will work directly with controls specialists to ensure instrumentation logic aligns with operational goals. Detailed validation of calculations and specifications ensures models represent real-world limitations and conditions. Mentoring junior staff while maintaining exhaustive documentation for future audits is also a core duty.

To qualify, you must offer a minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience with large-scale, complex power generation initiatives. Mastery of design processes for generation facilities and associated systems is mandatory. A deep understanding of federal energy sector expectations and delivery methodologies is essential. You must have a proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams under intense pressure. Exceptional communication skills are necessary for providing clear status updates to Project Managers and project control specialists.

What you'll do

• Orchestrate cross-functional alignment among controls specialists, electrical engineers, and mechanical teams to resolve interface challenges and uphold operational objectives.
• Validate detailed calculations and system specifications to confirm that models accurately reflect real-world physical constraints and environmental conditions.
• Deliver comprehensive design packages that satisfy contractual mandates, adhere to stringent schedule targets, and exceed established quality metrics and compliance benchmarks.
• Mentor junior engineering staff while maintaining meticulous documentation trails to support internal audits, knowledge transfer, and institutional memory.
• Partner with Project Managers to optimize resource allocation, monitor project advancement, and adjust execution plans against predefined milestones and risk registers.
• Champion sustainable infrastructure outcomes by integrating innovative technologies and resiliency frameworks into federal energy solutions.
• Liaise with federal energy clients to clarify objectives, capture critical requirements, and ensure all deliverables meet evolving regulatory and operational standards.
• Drive the successful completion of projects by balancing technical rigor, schedule adherence, and budget consciousness in high-pressure environments.
