About the role
This role focuses on the Subscriptions Mission, which manages the systems behind Spotify Premium. You will join the Monaco squad to build internal tools that allow business teams to manage pricing, promotions, and subscription offers. In this position, you will own the full lifecycle of features that power the subscription commerce stack. You will translate complex business requirements into robust, scalable software solutions that directly impact revenue operations. Your work will ensure that internal users can efficiently configure and monitor subscription products with high reliability. You will act as a bridge between product intent and technical implementation in a fast-paced environment. This role is critical for maintaining the integrity and flexibility of Spotify's global subscription offerings.

What you'll do
- Develop end-to-end full-stack features that span web interfaces, backend services, and data platforms for the global subscription business.
- Design and deliver internal product surfaces that enable teams to configure and launch Premium offers through secure, governed workflows.
- Build and maintain backend services that handle prepaid products, dynamic pricing updates, and complete subscription lifecycles.
- Create and consume GraphQL and gRPC APIs to enable seamless communication between frontend applications and distributed backend services.
- Manage database schemas and perform complex migrations while optimizing queries and performance within PostgreSQL environments.
- Construct auditable, secure systems that adhere to financial governance and SOX-compliance standards across all components.
- Collaborate closely with the Subscriptions Mission to drive improvements in platform reliability, observability, and developer tooling.
- Participate actively in technical architecture planning, rigorous code reviews, and structured on-call rotations to support production services.
- Implement data models and service layers that ensure consistency and accuracy in billing, pricing, and promotional mechanics.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate strategic initiatives into technical specifications and deliverable software increments.
- Automate operational tasks and build self-service capabilities that reduce manual effort and increase team efficiency.
- Ensure that all software changes are delivered with appropriate testing, documentation, and rollback strategies for production safety.
- Monitor service health and performance, working with SRE and platform teams to resolve incidents and improve stability.
- Contribute to long-term technical roadmaps that align with the evolving needs of Spotify's subscription commerce organization.
Requirements
- Possess professional experience delivering production software across both frontend and backend environments with demonstrable results.
- Bring hands-on experience developing scalable backend services using Java in enterprise-grade environments.
- Demonstrate proficiency in building modern web applications using TypeScript, React, and Next.js to create responsive user experiences.
- Show experience designing or consuming GraphQL APIs, including query optimization and schema design.
- Have familiarity with gRPC and Protocol Buffers to enable efficient service-to-service communication.
- Have hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including deep knowledge of schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
- Exhibit strong collaboration skills to work effectively with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders in a matrixed setting.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in English to articulate technical concepts and trade-offs to diverse audiences.
- Understand software development best practices including version control, testing, and continuous integration within agile teams.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for technical decisions and their impact on business outcomes.
Nice to have
- Hold experience working with Java 17 or newer runtime versions and associated tooling.
- Have familiarity with frameworks and libraries such as jOOQ, Flyway, Apollo GraphQL, DataLoader, Styled Components, Storybook, TanStack Query, Tailwind CSS, or Material UI.
- Bring a background in commerce platforms, pricing systems, or large-scale distributed architecture and operational challenges.
