Embedded DevOps Engineer
Job description
About the role
This role is responsible for architecting and maintaining the CI/CD, HIL, and SIL pipelines that bring Spear AI's embedded firmware from code commit to deployed sensor systems. You will define and enforce best practices for provisioning, configuration management, and deployment across cloud and edge environments. You will act as the fluent bridge between the embedded software team and the broader software group, aligning infrastructure decisions with operational realities. You will personally execute and refine release workflows, ensuring reliability, repeatability, and traceability at every stage. You will translate high-level system requirements into concrete infrastructure and automation tasks that the team can execute. You will coordinate closely with leadership to ensure that infrastructure investments directly support mission objectives and fielding timelines. You will contribute to a culture of ownership where infrastructure quality is treated as a first-class product feature.
What you'll do
- Architect and own the end-to-end CI/CD, HIL, and SIL testing strategy for embedded firmware.
- Build and maintain infrastructure pipelines using Infrastructure as Code to align cloud systems with hardware testbeds.
- Evaluate current provisioning and configuration systems, then design and drive production-ready improvements.
- Implement automated deployment and configuration workflows that reduce manual steps and increase repeatability.
- Coordinate with the hardware team to integrate software releases with buoy and sensor deployment processes.
- Participate in at-sea operations multiple times per year to validate systems under real-world conditions.
- Translate system requirements into actionable automation and testing tasks for the firmware team.
- Mentor engineers across the software and hardware groups to elevate infrastructure and DevOps practices.
- Serve as the informal interface between the embedded software team and company-wide software groups.
- Drive error checking and automation across provisioning, configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management.

You are comfortable learning and using tools as needed to solve problems, even if they are outside your primary specialty.
