About the role
Span is in search of an Accounting Manager to play a pivotal role within its accounting team. This position is essential for overseeing inventory and cost accounting, managing the monthly financial closing process, and supporting external audits as the company grows its manufacturing capabilities and product lines. The successful candidate will also be responsible for revenue and lease accounting while fostering the development of team members.

What you'll do
- Oversee the management of inventory and cost accounting for products sourced from contract manufacturers and EMS partners, ensuring precise standard costing and variance analysis.
- Supervise full consignment accounting for inventory across multiple locations, including inventory transfers and reconciliations.
- Ensure that inventory valuations and reserves are maintained in accordance with GAAP standards.
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain and Operations teams to verify inventory movements and validate cost data.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes, including the preparation and review of journal entries.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, providing detailed explanations for any variances to finance leadership.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and serve as a liaison for external auditors, addressing audit-related inquiries.
- Prepare and review revenue recognition entries in compliance with ASC 606, utilizing automated systems for efficiency.
- Prepare and review lease accounting entries under ASC 842, ensuring accurate maintenance of asset and liability schedules.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements to improve automation and reduce closing times.
- Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance on technical accounting matters and supporting their professional development.
- Foster a team-oriented environment that emphasizes accountability and continuous improvement.
- Build strong relationships with Supply Chain, FP&A, and Legal teams to ensure alignment of accounting practices with business operations.
- Provide proactive financial insights to cross-functional partners, effectively translating accounting concepts into understandable terms.
- Support various ad hoc projects, system implementations, and process enhancements within the accounting department.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and accrual accounting.
- A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in contract manufacturing and consignment inventory accounting within a manufacturing or hardware context.
- Familiarity with revenue recognition standards (ASC 606) and lease accounting principles (ASC 842).
- Experience managing accounting and reporting for Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) entities and standalone entity reporting.
- Proven track record of managing the accounting close process, including expectations, communications, and deadlines.
- Experience with month-end closing, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis.
- Recent experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly intermediate to advanced skills in Excel.
- Proficiency in using NetSuite for accounting functions.
- Ability to cultivate cross-functional relationships and communicate financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Previous experience in mentoring, coaching, or managing team members.
- Adaptable, agile, and quick to learn, thriving in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in work.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Nice to have
- Experience in drafting technical accounting analyses and memoranda.
- Background in the manufacturing or electrification sectors.
- Previous experience in public accounting.
- CPA certification is a plus.
