About the role
SpaceXAI builds advanced AI systems to expand human knowledge and understanding of the universe. You will join the facility operations team to design and activate complex data centers and infrastructure projects. This role requires an engineer who can manage multiple high-stakes projects independently while contributing to our long-term mission. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and safety of critical power systems that support AI workloads. The position demands a high level of ownership over the electrical lifecycle from design through activation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex infrastructure challenges. Success in this role depends on your ability to execute detailed engineering tasks with minimal supervision.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop detailed electrical designs and specifications for power distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, and emergency power systems.
- Manage the integration of UPS units, standby generators, automatic transfer switches, and site grounding systems.
- Oversee fire alarm, lighting, and data distribution installations.
- Perform load flow analysis and evaluate electrical equipment to ensure compatibility with facility power budgets.
- Troubleshoot electrical controllers and equipment in collaboration with facility technicians.
- Coordinate maintenance and installation activities with local utility providers.
- Maintain compliance with NFPA 70E, NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 497, NFPA 101, Vol 5 and 6 AFSPCMAN 91-710, and IBC standards.
- Conduct site surveys to collect critical data for electrical infrastructure planning.
- Prepare project schedules and resource plans to align with facility deployment timelines.
- Analyze system performance data to identify optimization opportunities for power quality and efficiency.
- Support the development of technical documentation for operations and maintenance procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with power distribution, switchgear, generators, and UPS systems.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and accurately.
- Strong prioritization skills and the ability to work in a flat, hands-on organizational structure.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Must be able to pass a background check and meet SpaceXAI security requirements.
- Must be physically capable of performing duties that may include lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must comply with all company policies and safety protocols without exception.
Nice to have
- 5 or more years of professional experience in a similar capacity.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Proficiency in reading power and control schematics plus technical O&M manuals.
- Experience with medium voltage distribution, VFDs, and industrial pumps.
- Familiarity with MODBUS communication and control panel design.
- Knowledge of power coordination and arc flash analysis.

This role operates on a full-time schedule with standard business hours as defined by facility needs. Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required to support project milestones and operational continuity. Travel expectations are limited to local site visits within the Memphis, Tennessee and Southaven, Mississippi areas. No international travel is required for this position at this time.
