About the role
SpaceXAI builds artificial intelligence systems designed to interpret the universe and assist humanity. We are looking for a pragmatic engineer to join our small, flat-structured team to support a global network serving over 1 billion users. You will own the design, implementation, and maintenance of the network infrastructure that powers our AI mission, ensuring alignment with strict operational standards. The role requires a solutions-oriented mindset to balance scalability, reliability, and security in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust network architectures. This position demands ownership of end-to-end network lifecycle responsibilities from planning to optimization. Your work will directly impact the performance and resilience of systems used by our global user base.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Establish architecture and configuration standards for the global network infrastructure.
- Evaluate and qualify new hardware platforms through rigorous testing and validation processes.
- Deploy network devices across corporate sites and Points of Presence to maintain consistent operations.
- Manage and provision corporate circuits to support traffic demands and business continuity.
- Refine operational procedures and configuration standards to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Enhance monitoring systems for corporate hardware to enable proactive identification of issues.
- Coordinate with internal IT, remote users, and third-party vendors to resolve complex network issues.
- Create detailed documentation and manage scheduled changes to ensure compliance and traceability.
- Perform firmware updates and maintain existing system configurations with attention to stability.
- Monitor network health to ensure uptime, performance, and adherence to service level objectives.
- Diagnose and repair network software and hardware failures using systematic troubleshooting methods.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide rapid response during critical incidents.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement network solutions that support AI workloads and data flows.
- Optimize network paths and policies to support high-bandwidth and low-latency requirements.
Requirements
- Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of BGP management and configuration in real-world scenarios.
- Possess experience with datacenter and backbone network environments spanning multiple locations.
- Show knowledge of wireless technology principles and their integration into broader network designs.
- Exhibit proficiency in at least one internal routing protocol used in enterprise and carrier settings.
- Have experience with corporate networking environments including branch, core, and edge architectures.
- Show understanding of TCP/IP and remote access protocols to support secure connectivity models.
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Adhere to strict regulatory requirements including ITAR compliance for all network-related activities.
- Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet export control law obligations.
- Maintain a professional approach to security and compliance in all aspects of network management.
Nice to have
- Hold experience with hardware from vendors including Juniper, Cisco, Aruba, or Arista.
- Possess a background in network security and Network Access Control (NAC) implementations.
- Demonstrate the ability to use scripting for network automation and operational tasks.
- Show familiarity with AI and machine learning workflows that depend on high-performance networking.
- Have a track record of optimizing network performance in large-scale, distributed environments.
- Understand network telemetry and the use of tools for visibility and analytics.
- Contribute to open source projects or internal initiatives that improve network operations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop best practices and standards documentation.
Skills & tools
- Expertise in BGP, TCP/IP, and Internal Routing Protocols to support resilient connectivity.
- Hands-on experience with Network Hardware from Juniper, Cisco, Aruba, and Arista platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Network Security, NAC frameworks, and Remote Access technologies.
- Proficiency in Scripting and Automation to streamline repetitive tasks and improve accuracy.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and performance analysis methodologies.
- Understanding of Quality of Service policies and traffic shaping techniques for critical applications.
- Capability to interpret network diagrams and translate them into functional configurations.
- Experience with change management processes and incident response procedures.
