What you'll do

• Develop and implement the software roadmap for Wi-Fi products that serve the vast majority of Starlink's customer base.
• Conduct kernel-level debugging and optimize system performance to enhance user experience.
• Collaborate closely with RF and electrical engineering teams to improve hardware and software testing methodologies.
• Mentor junior software engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team atmosphere.
• Work on enhancing the performance and reliability of Wi-Fi mesh systems to ensure seamless connectivity.
• Create internal tools aimed at automating software deployment, testing, and data analysis within a continuous integration framework.
• Analyze user feedback and performance metrics to inform software improvements and feature enhancements.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives to align software development with broader organizational goals and customer needs.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure that Starlink remains at the forefront of satellite internet solutions.
• Document software architecture and design decisions to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
• Participate in code reviews to maintain high-quality standards and ensure best practices in software development.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related STEM field, coupled with over 10 years of professional software development experience; or a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience without a degree.
• At least 8 years of hands-on development experience with C or C++.
• Strong understanding of the IEEE 802.11 wireless standard along with networking protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP.
• Proven experience in developing embedded software specifically for networking hardware.
• Familiarity with kernel-level programming and debugging techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience with networking kernel modules and drivers would be advantageous.
• A solid understanding of networks, embedded systems, physics, and mathematics.
• Prior experience in Wi-Fi stability and performance testing is a plus.
• Knowledge of continuous integration, deployment, and monitoring practices.
• Expertise in Linux networking components, including DHCP, IPv6, IPv4, and network stack internals.
• Background in leading cross-functional projects that require collaboration across various teams.
• Familiarity with security considerations for distributed systems.
• Proficiency in additional programming languages such as Python and Golang.
• Experience with hostAP and various Wi-Fi chipsets would be beneficial.
