In this role, you will be integral to the development of the Starlink satellite broadband network, which aims to deliver high-speed internet access to users around the world. Your contributions will focus on the software architecture and strategic direction for the Wi-Fi systems that support our customer-facing hardware. What you'll do
- Develop and implement the strategic roadmap for Wi-Fi software and associated products, ensuring alignment with overall project goals.
- Conduct kernel-level debugging to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with RF and electrical engineering teams to optimize testing protocols for both hardware and software.
- Mentor junior team members, promoting a culture of learning and collaboration within the team.
- Work on improving the performance and efficiency of Wi-Fi mesh systems to enhance user experience.
- Create innovative tools to streamline software deployment processes, test execution, and data analysis within a continuous integration environment.
- Analyze performance metrics and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality of Wi-Fi services.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall quality of the software development lifecycle.
- Document software designs, processes, and troubleshooting techniques for future reference and team training.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in Wi-Fi technology and integrate relevant improvements into existing systems.
- Engage in cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of Wi-Fi systems with other components of the Starlink network.
- Contribute to the development of best practices for software development and deployment in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or mathematics, along with at least one year of professional software development experience; alternatively, three or more years of relevant experience without a degree will be considered.
- A minimum of one year of experience in software development using C or C++.
- Strong understanding of the IEEE 802.11 wireless standard and networking protocols, including TCP/IP and UDP.
- Proven experience in creating embedded software for networking devices.
- Familiarity with debugging tools and techniques for kernel-level software.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing individual responsibilities effectively.
Nice to have
- A solid understanding of physics, mathematics, embedded systems, and networking fundamentals.
- Experience leading projects that require collaboration across multiple teams and effective communication of technical concepts.
- Background in Wi-Fi performance and stability testing methodologies.
- Knowledge of continuous integration, deployment processes, and monitoring tools.
- Understanding of Linux networking stack internals, including IPv4, IPv6, and DHCP protocols.
- Familiarity with networking drivers and kernel modules, as well as experience in distributed system security.
- Proficiency in additional programming languages such as Python and Golang, along with experience using hostAP.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in C, C++, Python, and Golang.
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and networking standards, including IEEE 802.11, TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, IPv4, and IPv6.
- Experience with tools and frameworks for continuous integration and deployment.
Practical notes
- Compensation for this position is structured based on experience: Level 1 offers an annual salary ranging from $135,000 to $160,000, while Level 2 ranges from $155,000 to $185,000.
- In addition to salary, the total rewards package includes company stock, stock options, cash bonuses, and an employee stock purchase plan.
