About the role
SpaceX is on the lookout for a skilled engineer to join its team, focusing on the development and assembly of fluid and mechanical systems essential for testing rocket engines and vehicles. This position requires hands-on engagement in a fast-paced setting, contributing to the ongoing advancements of the Starship/Raptor, Falcon, and Dragon programs. As a key player in this role, you will help design, construct, and maintain the infrastructure that supports the testing of some of the most powerful rocket engines in existence.

What you'll do
- Design and build systems that facilitate the testing of flight vehicles, individual rocket engines, and various rocket components.
- Oversee engineering projects from the initial design phase through to procurement and construction, ensuring all aspects are aligned with project goals.
- Work closely with technicians to translate designs into reality, addressing and resolving issues as they arise during the build process.
- Collaborate with the test operations team to adapt plans swiftly in order to meet critical testing deadlines.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and refine testing equipment based on performance data and maintenance feedback to enhance system designs.
- Tackle complex engineering problems to support testing initiatives and align with the company's strategic objectives.
- Lead urgent field projects that are crucial for maintaining the continuity of rocket engine and vehicle testing operations.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols while working in various testing environments.
- Document engineering processes and maintain accurate records of designs, modifications, and test results.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to provide insights and updates on project progress and challenges.
- Stay updated with the latest engineering practices and technologies to continuously improve testing methodologies.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, chemical, or a related engineering field is required.
- A minimum of one year of practical experience in design or construction, which can include professional roles, internships, or relevant engineering projects.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or possess the necessary authorizations to work in the U.S.
Nice to have
- A solid understanding of fluid dynamics, structural integrity, or mechanical systems is advantageous.
- Proven ability to think critically and solve problems effectively under pressure.
- Experience managing projects with tight deadlines and adapting to rapidly changing priorities.
- Practical skills in fabrication techniques such as machining or welding.

- Knowledge of complex mechanical or structural systems and their design verification through hand calculations or modeling tools like FEA or CFD.
- Proficiency in creating detailed fabrication drawings for machined or welded components.
- Intermediate skills in CAD software, particularly Siemens NX, are preferred.
- Understanding of ASME standards for piping and pressure vessel design.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
- At least three years of engineering design experience in an industrial context is desirable.

- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Familiarity with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Knowledge of ASME piping and pressure vessel design standards
Practical notes
This position demands flexibility, including the potential for extended hours and weekend work as required. The role may also involve responding to emergencies. Physical requirements include the ability to stand, kneel, and crouch, as well as working in confined spaces and climbing heights of up to 300 feet while using personal protective equipment (PPE). Candidates should be able to lift up to 25 pounds and work in diverse outdoor conditions, which may include exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, and various environmental factors such as fumes, odors, and noise.
