About the role
Become a vital member of the Starlink Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team, where you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of advanced vehicle dynamics simulators and their supporting infrastructure. Your work will involve creating high-fidelity models that encompass multi-body physics, propulsion systems, and control hardware, all aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the Starlink satellite constellation.

What you'll do
- Oversee the maintenance and scaling of the proprietary simulator to effectively support the expanding Starlink satellite network.
- Take charge of the management and enhancement of the GNC Monte Carlo simulation framework to ensure robust performance.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to design and implement new features, thereby improving the overall simulation experience for users.
- Focus on optimizing software performance and reliability through rigorous profiling and the implementation of continuous integration practices.
- Develop and refine models that accurately represent vehicle dynamics, ensuring they meet the high standards required for satellite operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate simulation tools with other systems and processes within the organization.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of simulation models to ensure their accuracy and reliability under various scenarios.
- Provide technical support and training to team members and other users of the simulation tools, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Document processes, methodologies, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in simulation technology to continually enhance the team's capabilities.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to the overall architecture of simulation systems.
- Engage in troubleshooting and resolving issues that may arise during simulation runs, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related STEM discipline, coupled with a minimum of 1 year of software development experience; alternatively, candidates may have 3 or more years of professional software development experience without a degree.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience programming in C or C++.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees to comply with ITAR regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in developing software solutions that require a strong analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with simulation tools and methodologies, particularly in the context of aerospace or robotics applications.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, adapting to rapidly changing project requirements.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in Python and experience with front-end technologies such as JavaScript.
- A solid foundation in software design principles, unit testing, and debugging techniques.
- A deep understanding of physics and mathematics, particularly as they relate to simulation and modeling.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulation techniques.
- Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- A proactive approach to learning and self-improvement, with a keen interest in staying abreast of new technologies and methods.

Practical notes
- The salary range for this position is structured as follows: Level I ($125,000 - $145,000 annually) and Level II ($145,000 - $175,000 annually).
- Compensation packages may include stock options, long-term cash incentives, discretionary bonuses, and participation in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
