About the role
SpaceX is on a mission to create the Starlink satellite network, which aims to provide dependable internet access across the globe. Within the Tool and Die department, our focus is on producing the dies, tools, and molds essential for processes like injection molding, high-pressure die casting, and stamping. These components are crucial for the efficient in-house manufacturing of user terminal components. In this position, you will play a vital role in developing new manufacturing and testing processes in a dynamic environment, where your contributions will significantly influence product quality, cost efficiency, and production speed.

What you'll do
- Assist in the production of new products, overseeing the process from raw materials through all CNC operations and tool assembly.
- Assess non-conforming machined components and contribute to the development of corrective and preventive measures.
- Develop manufacturing standards aimed at enhancing consistency and reliability within the shop environment.
- Collaborate with team members to create and refine in-house machining maintenance protocols.
- Identify and implement opportunities to enhance yield, production rates, and overall cost-effectiveness.
- Utilize CAD software and part specifications to generate work instructions and ensure part quality verification.
- Manage complex parts with tight tolerances, working with a variety of materials.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
- Document processes and outcomes to maintain a clear record of production activities and improvements.
- Train and mentor junior staff on best practices in tool and die machining.
- Engage in troubleshooting and problem-solving to address manufacturing challenges as they arise.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and best practices.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
- At least 3 years of practical experience in a manufacturing setting, or a bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or a related field.
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods, climb ladders, bend, grasp, sit, push, pull, stoop, and stretch as required.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
- Willingness to travel for business purposes, up to 30% of the time.
Nice to have
- A minimum of 2 years of experience managing raw material flow within a machine shop environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as NX or Solidworks, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience.
- Experience working with CNC machines, EDMs, welding, and various Tool and Die manufacturing processes for at least 2 years.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Excel for documentation and reporting purposes.
- A proactive approach to suggesting process and design enhancements to engineering teams.
Skills & tools
- Expertise in CNC machining techniques.
- Proficient in Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).
- Experience in welding processes.
- Competence in CAD applications, specifically NX and Solidworks.
- Knowledge of tool and die assembly processes.
- Familiarity with injection molding, high-pressure die casting, and stamping dies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Windows operating systems.
