About the role
This position centers on the Starship program where you will design and validate sensing hardware essential for interplanetary travel. You will join a multidisciplinary group tasked with the characterization and integration of navigation sensors like gyroscopes and accelerometers. The role requires you to own the entire sensor development lifecycle from initial concept through flight acceptance. You will define test strategies that prove sensor performance in the extreme conditions of spaceflight. This position demands close collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure system-level success. You will be responsible for translating high-level requirements into precise sensor specifications and test protocols. Your work will directly impact the reliability and safety of missions traveling beyond Earth orbit.

What you'll do
- Execute environmental characterization of inertial sensors to verify flight-worthiness and performance standards.
- Investigate anomalies in test data and maintain rigorous technical documentation for regulatory compliance.
- Architect and implement sensor calibration procedures that optimize accuracy and repeatability.
- Orchestrate production timelines to secure hardware readiness for vehicle integration and launch windows.
- Perform component qualification testing to validate adherence to strict aerospace standards.
- Modernize existing hardware and software systems to improve robustness and maintainability.
- Coordinate test schedules across shared laboratory facilities to maximize resource utilization.
- Liaise with suppliers to resolve component-level issues and drive corrective actions.
- Synthesize test results into actionable insights for cross-functional engineering teams.
- Champion the adoption of best practices for sensor verification and validation processes.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Possess 5+ years of professional engineering experience in a relevant field.
- Accumulate 3+ years of specific experience with inertial sensors and their associated test methods.
- Demonstrate proficiency in C/C++ and Python for data analysis and automation tasks.
- Show experience with testing, qualifying, and calibrating inertial navigation sensors in prior roles.
- Exhibit familiarity with shock, vibration, and thermal environmental testing techniques.
- Maintain the ability to obtain and maintain U.S. government security clearance if required.
- Comply with ITAR regulations by being a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Nice to have
- Earn a Master of Science in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Accumulate 5+ years of experience working with inertial sensors across multiple programs.
- Develop deep expertise in navigation-grade accelerometers and gyroscopes across the full product lifecycle from design to disposal.
- Show a history of strong communication and documentation abilities with minimal supervision.
- Prove a record of taking ownership of products within fast-paced, deadline-driven teams.
- Bring experience with sensor fusion algorithms and real-time data processing.
- Highlight contributions to process improvements that reduced test cycle time or increased first-pass yield.

- You must be available to work weekends and extended hours as required to meet project milestones.
- This role is conducted in the United States and requires physical presence at the Hawthorne, California site.

- The salary range for this position is $140,000.00 - $205,000.00 per year, paid bi-weekly.
