About the role

SpaceX is on the lookout for a skilled security engineer to enhance its Information Security team, dedicated to safeguarding the systems and data integral to our ambitious goal of reaching Mars. In this position, you will be responsible for constructing and maintaining the backend infrastructure and security technologies that uphold the integrity and availability of our enterprise services.

What you'll do

• Design and oversee authentication and identity management services, which include implementing multi-factor authentication and network access control measures.
• Automate the management of identity lifecycles and create scripts that facilitate security operations.
• Ensure the security of network systems and maintain the backend infrastructure essential for operations.
• Deploy security measures for applications, including the use of web application firewalls to protect against threats.
• Uphold security policies and manage configurations for cloud-based deployments to ensure compliance and safety.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in security solutions, offering technical advice and support to various internal teams.
• Work collaboratively with IT, legal, HR, and software development teams to identify potential threats and enhance the overall security framework of our systems.
• Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
• Stay current with the latest security trends and technologies to ensure SpaceX remains at the forefront of cybersecurity.
• Participate in incident response activities, helping to investigate and remediate security breaches when they occur.
• Document security processes and procedures to ensure compliance and facilitate training for other team members.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline or a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in security software development.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, GO, C#, C/C++, or Rust.
• Demonstrated experience in designing security solutions for distributed systems, operating systems, or extensive infrastructure setups.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to comply with ITAR regulations.
• Capability to successfully pass an Air Force background check as part of the hiring process.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with secure coding practices to ensure the development of robust applications.
• Proficient understanding of the internals of Linux, Windows, and macOS systems.
• Knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), OpenID Connect (OIDC), and OAuth protocols.
• Experience working with Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs) and Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).
• Understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP.
• Background in developing RESTful services, HTTP-RPC, and web-based APIs.
• Awareness of code-signing techniques and enterprise application deployment processes for Windows and macOS platforms.
