About the role
Join the Constellation Engineering team to build and manage the software powering the Starlink satellite network. You will own the full lifecycle of code that operates both on-orbit satellites and the distributed ground systems that support them. In this capacity, you are responsible for creating reliable software that ensures the seamless operation of thousands of satellites in low-earth orbit. You will maintain full ownership of your code, guiding it from initial design and development through rigorous testing and secure deployment to production environments. The role requires performing architecture, design, and code reviews to uphold the highest standards of quality and reliability across the system. You will coordinate with team members to plan and organize product development, aligning technical execution with ambitious project goals. Furthermore, you will ensure the fleet remains functional through robust command, control, and monitoring systems that provide real-time insights. This position is critical to the success of one of the world's largest satellite constellations.

What you'll do
- Create reliable software to manage thousands of satellites in low-earth orbit, ensuring continuous operation and data flow.
- Maintain full ownership of your code, from initial design and development to testing and deployment, driving projects from concept to completion.
- Perform architecture, design, and code reviews to validate technical approaches and identify potential improvements early in the lifecycle.

Requirements
- Bachelor degree in engineering, computer science, math, or science plus 1 year of professional software development experience; OR 3+ years of professional software development experience (including internships).
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones and operational demands.
- U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, refugee, or asylee status is mandatory to comply with ITAR and U.S. export regulations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance, if required for the position.
- Demonstrated capability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced aerospace environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with diverse teams.

Nice to have
- Proficiency in C++ or Python and Linux development.
- Background in large-scale consumer internet systems or distributed systems.
- Production experience with Kubernetes or Docker.
- Familiarity with monitoring, continuous integration, testing, build processes, and version control.
- Experience with CockroachDB, PostgreSQL, or similar relational databases.
- Previous work with spacecraft or satellite systems.
Practical notes

Salary: Level I $125,000 - $145,000; Level II $145,000 - $175,000 per year.
- Total rewards include company stock, stock options, long-term cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
