Operations Engineer

About the role

Join the Starlink Satellite team to optimize the supply chain and materials management infrastructure. You will bridge the gap between production and development to improve process reliability and safety for our satellite constellation. In this capacity, you will act as a critical connector between engineering design and physical material flow, ensuring that components move efficiently through the facility. You will be responsible for analyzing current workflows and establishing robust systems that support the rapid scaling of satellite production. Your work will directly influence the reliability and safety of the constellation by ensuring the right materials are available at the right time. This role requires a proactive mindset to identify systemic issues before they impact production schedules. You will contribute to a high-velocity environment where data-driven decisions are essential for operational success.

What you'll do

• Plan and execute infrastructure, equipment, and facility layout upgrades for materials management.
• Manage material flow projects while coordinating with internal stakeholders.
• Identify root causes of logistics bottlenecks and implement effective solutions.
• Establish and track key performance indicators to measure operational success.
• Use data to build business cases for process improvements.
• Train logistics and inventory staff on best practices and new workflows.
• Analyze historical performance data to forecast future capacity and resource needs.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to validate new equipment installations and process changes.
• Support the implementation of lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste and improve efficiency.
• Monitor inventory levels and work with suppliers to ensure timely receipt of critical materials.
• Develop standardized procedures for material handling to ensure consistency and safety across teams.
• Investigate discrepancies in inventory data and reconcile records with physical stock counts.
• Assist in the development of contingency plans for supply chain disruptions.
• Facilitate cross-functional workshops to align on operational goals and improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in an engineering field.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, or inventory management, including internships or academic projects.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance, likely Secret.
• Must be able to pass a drug test.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment authorization now or in the future.
• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as required to meet project deadlines and operational needs.
• Must comply with all company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.
• Must demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work location in Redmond, Washington.

Nice to have

• Master degree in engineering or supply chain management.
• Experience with CAD, SQL, Power BI, Grafana, Python, R, Minitab, or discrete event modeling.
• Background as an industrial, process, manufacturing, or quality engineer.
• Proficiency in Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
• Experience with MRP/ERP systems and capacity planning.

Practical notes

Compensation: Level I pays $100,000 to $115,000 per year; Level II pays $110,000 to $135,000 per year.

• Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, disability insurance, paid parental leave, and 3 weeks of vacation plus 10 holidays.
• Eligibility for stock options, company stock, discretionary bonuses, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
• Expect to work extended hours and weekends as required.
• Company shuttles operate between select Seattle locations and the Redmond office on weekdays.
