Operations Engineer

About the role

Join the Starlink Growth Business Operations team to help scale the world's largest satellite constellation. You will work directly with leadership to analyze data, influence product strategy, and execute operational improvements that support the mission of funding Mars colonization. In this capacity, you will own the integrity and efficiency of critical business operations that bridge technical execution and high-level decision-making. You will be responsible for diagnosing complex issues in the user journey and translating findings into actionable strategies for global deployment. The role requires a deep commitment to leveraging data analytics to drive sustainable growth and operational excellence. You will act as a key liaison between technical teams and executive stakeholders, ensuring that all initiatives align with the overarching goals of the company. This position is integral to maintaining the competitive edge of Starlink's service offerings in a rapidly evolving market. Your work will directly contribute to the long-term vision of expanding access to high-speed connectivity while advancing the broader mission of enabling life on Mars.

What you'll do

• Direct initiatives to enhance Starlink hardware and service offerings through technical analysis and cross-departmental coordination.
• Detect product and engineering flaws affecting the user experience and implement operational fixes.
• Analyze end-user metrics to improve customer lifetime value across global markets.
• Build and deploy predictive models to address retention challenges, including the automation of customer outreach programs.
• Partner with finance, supply chain, legal, engineering, and support teams to maintain data accuracy.
• Conduct A/B testing to verify improvements in user engagement and retention.
• Present performance reports, risk assessments, and growth opportunities to executive leadership.
• Create documentation and training materials for retention tools and dashboards.
• Develop and maintain dashboards that provide real-time visibility into key operational metrics.
• Investigate anomalies in network performance and customer usage patterns to identify root causes.
• Optimize data pipelines to ensure the reliability and scalability of analytics infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product managers to define success metrics and track progress against strategic objectives.
• Design experiments to test hypotheses regarding customer behavior and operational efficiency.
• Facilitate workshops with cross-functional teams to align on priorities and share best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Minimum 1 year of professional experience in operations, product management, manufacturing, consulting, engineering, venture capital, or entrepreneurship.
• Minimum 1 year of experience using SQL, Python, or industrial project management methodologies.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for an employment visa (such as H-1B) now or in the future.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet ITAR requirements.
• Must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• Must be able to submit to a background check and meet all SpaceX employment eligibility requirements.
• Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as required to meet operational demands.
• Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX sites, customer locations, and industry events as necessary.

Nice to have

• Dual degree combining an engineering field with business or economics.
• Proven track record of driving significant impact within large organizations.
• Advanced proficiency in data tools such as Tableau, R, Power BI, Looker, Power Query, or complex Excel modeling.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience leading teams or student organizations.
