SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Superintendent to oversee the daily construction activities at the Hawthorne campus. What you'll do

• Oversee and manage all on-site construction activities, focusing on scheduling, tracking progress, and allocating resources efficiently.
• Facilitate daily operations in the field, addressing and resolving conflicts that arise between contractors and internal teams.
• Uphold and enforce SpaceX's safety protocols, fostering a safety culture throughout the construction site.
• Manage site logistics, which includes coordinating deliveries, unloading materials, overseeing inventory, and organizing material staging.
• Ensure compliance with the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and adhere to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
• Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to develop and refine work schedules for employees and subcontractors.
• Maintain a daily log of operations and provide regular status updates to leadership.
• Oversee SpaceX's construction assets, including trailers and rental equipment, ensuring they are well-maintained and utilized efficiently.
• Prepare preliminary budgets and solicit contractor proposals for assigned projects, ensuring financial accountability.
• Finalize project costs and timelines, implementing necessary controls to manage scope, budget, and schedule effectively.
• Work closely with end users and facilities teams to coordinate building operations and maintenance tasks.
• Supervise night shift contracts as project demands dictate, ensuring continuity of operations.
• Manage contractor access, including badging and security protocols.
• Adapt operational strategies as needed to meet project deadlines, escalating issues to engineering and project management teams when required.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent certification is required.
• At least 3 years of experience in the construction industry, with a focus on managing site personnel and contract labor.
• Must be able to work at heights exceeding 200 feet.
• Physical capability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Comfortable working in various outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
• Ability to work in environments with exposure to fumes, odors, and high noise levels.
• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as operational needs arise.
• A valid driver's license from California is mandatory.

Nice to have

• Experience in a technical field or managing teams of multi-discipline contractors is advantageous.
• Familiarity with project management and scheduling software tools is a plus.
• Basic proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
• Knowledge of permitting processes and environmental regulations is beneficial.
• Understanding of civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying disciplines is a plus.
• Previous experience with construction project management, including estimating, cost control, scheduling, and contractor oversight.
• Ability to read, review, and approve shop and fabrication drawings is desirable.
• Adaptability to quickly shift roles and responsibilities in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong work ethic combined with excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Practical notes

• Salary for Level I positions ranges from $80,000 to $107,500 annually.
• Salary for Level II positions ranges from $95,000 to $120,000 annually.
• The final level and base salary will be determined based on relevant job knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
• Eligible for long-term incentives, including company stock options and cash awards.
