In this position, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the production capabilities of the Starship and Super Heavy programs by overseeing the integration of various systems, including structural, propulsion, and avionics components. This role serves as a vital link between design engineering and the technician teams, ensuring that the hardware is designed for both reliability and manufacturability. What you'll do
- Establish production specifications and supervise the assembly, integration, and testing of flight hardware to ensure compliance with design standards.
- Design and implement tooling solutions aimed at minimizing assembly errors while enhancing production efficiency.
- Automate various manufacturing processes to achieve uniformity and reliability across the production line.
- Assess subsystem cycle times and initiate design modifications if performance targets are not achieved.
- Act as a subject matter expert for vehicle systems, which include aerodynamic control surfaces, thermal protection systems, propellant delivery mechanisms, and primary structural components.
- Create and uphold design for manufacturing standards specifically for the assembly of Starship and Super Heavy vehicles.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues that arise during the production process.
- Document and analyze production data to identify trends and areas for improvement in manufacturing practices.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is required.
- At least one year of hands-on engineering experience is necessary, which can include internships or participation in design teams.
- Must be capable of working in challenging outdoor environments, confined spaces, and at heights reaching up to 500 feet.
- Physical ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and twist for extended periods, as well as lift or push items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees to comply with ITAR export regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Nice to have
- A master's degree in an engineering field is preferred.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in aerospace or mechanical engineering is advantageous.
- Experience with system-level acceptance testing for complex systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for engineering drawings is beneficial.
- A background in large-scale steel construction projects, such as those in naval, civil, or mechanical engineering, is desirable.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, factory layout design, and process optimization techniques is a plus.
- Proficiency in software tools such as Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and Process Simulate is advantageous.
- Previous experience in improving or maintaining welding processes will be considered a plus.

- Proficient in Siemens NX for design and modeling.
- Familiar with Teamcenter for product lifecycle management.
- Experienced in Process Simulate for manufacturing process visualization.
- Knowledgeable in GD&T principles for precise engineering documentation.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing methodologies to enhance production efficiency.

- Occasional travel to remote build sites may be necessary, with an estimated requirement of up to 10% of your time.
- The work schedule is adaptable and may vary based on the needs of the operational site.
- Candidates may be required to undergo a medical history review or physical assessment to verify their capability to perform essential physical tasks, which may include the use of respirators and operation of heavy machinery.
