About the role
Become a vital part of the team responsible for constructing the Starship vehicle at SpaceX's Starbase facility. In this position, you will oversee the assembly and validation of flight hardware, with a strong emphasis on enhancing production capabilities for what is known as the most powerful rocket ever built.

What you'll do
- Develop and define the requirements for production while supervising the assembly, integration, and testing of flight hardware components.
- Design and implement tooling solutions aimed at minimizing assembly errors and accelerating the build process.
- Automate various production workflows to maintain uniformity and quality across the manufacturing line.
- Set and monitor cycle time objectives for designated work areas, making necessary design modifications to improve efficiency.
- Serve as a technical expert in critical systems, including avionics, primary structures, propulsion, thermal protection, or aerodynamic control surfaces.
- Establish and uphold design standards for manufacturing processes related to the production of the Starship and Super Heavy Booster.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring that all hardware meets stringent quality and performance standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production methods and enhance overall operational efficiency.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is required.
- At least one year of practical engineering experience, which may include internships or relevant design projects.
- Physical capability to perform tasks such as standing for extended periods, climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces or at heights of up to 500 feet.
- Willingness to work in outdoor settings that may expose you to extreme temperatures, loud noises, and various odors.
- Flexibility in work hours and the ability to travel to other company locations up to 10% of the time.
- Compliance with ITAR regulations, necessitating U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, refugee status, or asylee status.
Nice to have
- A master's degree in an engineering field is preferred.
- Over two years of professional experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering is advantageous.
- Experience with system-level acceptance testing for at least one year is a plus.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for over two years is desirable.
- A background in large-scale steel construction, such as in naval, civil, or mechanical engineering projects, is beneficial.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing techniques, factory layout design, process development, and error-proofing methodologies.
- Experience in developing and improving welding processes is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and Process Simulate software is highly regarded.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Siemens NX for design and modeling tasks.
- Experienced with Teamcenter for product lifecycle management.
- Skilled in Process Simulate for process planning and simulation.
- Familiar with CAD/PLM software tools for design and documentation.
- Knowledgeable in GD&T principles for precise engineering communication.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to enhance production efficiency.
Practical notes
- Candidates should be prepared to lift weights of up to 25 pounds and push or pull loads of up to 50 pounds.
- A pre-employment physical or medical history assessment may be required to verify the ability to work in specialized environments, including the use of respirators and operation of heavy machinery.
