About the role
Join the Starshield team to manage the full lifecycle of our satellite constellation. You will design constellation geometry and implement control systems for orbit maintenance, station keeping, and collision avoidance. In this capacity, you will act as a primary architect for the guidance, navigation, and control logic that ensures the integrity and longevity of the fleet. Your work will directly influence the strategic deployment and operational resilience of space-based assets. You will own the analysis and refinement of algorithms that govern how our vehicles interact with the space environment. This role requires a deep commitment to precision, safety, and the rigorous standards necessary for successful space operations. You will be responsible for translating complex mission requirements into robust software solutions that maintain optimal constellation performance. Your contributions will be integral to the reliability and effectiveness of our managed fleet.

What you'll do
- Implement and validate GNC algorithms using Python or C++ to ensure precise attitude and orbit control.
- Conduct bulk analysis on telemetry and performance data from Starshield satellites and hosted payloads to identify trends and anomalies.
- Design constellation geometry and perform network-level analysis for current and planned satellite architectures.
- Produce technical documentation and participate in design and code reviews to maintain high standards of quality.
- Develop and maintain simulation environments and dashboards that provide real-time insight into fleet behavior.
- Support on-call operations by commanding satellites and monitoring vehicle performance metrics around the clock.
- Build and maintain flight software tools that automate critical aspects of fleet management.
- Perform orbit maintenance calculations and station-keeping strategies to extend the operational life of the constellation.
- Execute collision avoidance maneuvers and analyze conjunction data to protect the integrity of the fleet.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align GNC objectives with broader mission goals and timelines.
- Utilize advanced numerical methods to assess risk and optimize trajectories for future mission profiles.
- Troubleshoot anomalies in attitude determination and navigation systems using ground and space-based sensor data.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in aerospace, computer science, physics, or an engineering discipline.
- Demonstrate software development experience using C++ or Python in a professional or academic setting.
- Possess the ability to work extended hours and weekends to support mission operations as needed.
- Meet ITAR requirements by being a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
- Show capability to learn and apply complex orbital mechanics principles to real-world engineering challenges.
- Maintain a strong attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of simulations, analysis, and flight software.
- Exhibit resilience and adaptability when facing technically challenging and high-stakes operational scenarios.
- Commit to following established processes and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
Nice to have
- Hold a Master degree or Ph.D. in physics, computer science, or an engineering field.
- Demonstrate proficiency in orbital mechanics, including low thrust trajectory optimization and station-keeping.
- Show understanding of Alfano, Foster, and Hall numerical probability of collision methods.
- Bring experience with space-based sensor platforms, state estimation, GNSS, radio navigation, and attitude determination.
- Have knowledge of spacecraft subsystems such as propulsion, avionics, structures, and dynamics.
- Hold an active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance.

Compensation: Level I ($125,000 - $150,000) or Level II ($145,175 - $175,000).
- Active clearance holders receive a 10% differential (up to $20,000 annually) upon briefing into classified programs.
