About the role
Join the Starshield team to develop guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for user terminals connecting ground assets to space-based networks. You will build production software that manages beam-steering and navigation for high-velocity platforms in support of national security missions. In this capacity, you are responsible for architecting resilient GNC solutions that ensure continuous connectivity in contested environments. The role requires translating high-level mission objectives into deterministic control logic for complex phased array systems. You will operate at the intersection of real-time software engineering and precision navigation theory. What you'll do
- Architect and analyze GNC logic specifically for phased array antennas, ensuring stability across high-dynamic maneuvers.
- Develop algorithms for real-time translational and angular navigation using heterogeneous sensor data and advanced state estimation techniques.
- Create beam-steering logic to maintain uninterrupted link integrity during rapid satellite hand-offs and platform maneuvers.
- Engineer GNSS-independent position, navigation, and timing solutions to guarantee operability in denied environments.
- Support hardware development cycles and sensor package specification through detailed simulation reviews and empirical data analysis.
- Write, test, and deploy production-grade C++ code that meets stringent reliability standards for high-maneuverability platforms.
- Conduct rigorous performance validation of navigation filters and control loops through comprehensive modeling and hardware-in-loop testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and optimize end-to-end latency in critical tracking applications.
- Implement fault detection, isolation, and recovery mechanisms to sustain mission continuity during anomalous operational conditions.
- Document architectural decisions and verification results to support system certification and long-term maintainability.
- Analyze telemetry data to refine algorithmic performance and adapt to evolving operational constraints in the field.
- Translate complex mathematical models into deterministic software modules suitable for deployment on embedded processors.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in aerospace engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a related engineering field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrate professional experience developing software in C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink through tangible project outcomes or prior roles.
- Exhibit practical knowledge of attitude determination and state estimation algorithms, including filter design and observability analysis.
- Prove the ability to work extended hours and weekends to meet mission-critical deadlines without compromising technical accuracy.
- Must meet ITAR requirements by virtue of being a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee eligible for access authorization.
- Capability to obtain and maintain active security clearances as mandated for access to classified national security programs.
- Willingness to adhere to strict export control regulations and safeguard sensitive technical information throughout the project lifecycle.
- Readiness to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing as conditions of employment per regulatory standards.
Nice to have
- Hold a Master degree or PhD in physics or an engineering discipline with advanced training in estimation theory or control systems.
- Bring experience with robotics, feedback control systems, antenna actuation mechanisms, or inertial navigation subsystems.
- Possess a background in GNSS-denied state estimation, including loosely or tightly coupled integration architectures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Linux development environments, including build systems, debugging tools, and version control workflows.
- Maintain Active Top Secret, Top Secret SCI, or DOE Level Q clearance to immediately support sensitive mission objectives.

Salary: Level I ($125,000 - $150,000); Level II ($145,000 - $175,000).
- Active security clearances qualify for a 10% differential increase in compensation, up to $20,000 annually, upon briefing into classified programs.
