About the role
The application software team at SpaceX plays a role in developing the essential infrastructure that underpins the company's operations. This includes creating critical software tools that facilitate the production of launch vehicles, manage flight operations, and support the Starlink satellite network. As a Full Stack Software Engineer specializing in data, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining systems that handle telemetry, factory data, and launch metrics, ultimately aiding in strategic decision-making across the organization.

What you'll do
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines and analytical libraries for internal applications, ensuring they meet the needs of various teams.
- Develop innovative software solutions aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of SpaceX's business processes.
- Engage in architectural discussions, participate in design sessions, and conduct thorough code reviews to maintain high-quality standards.
- Create and test prototypes to evaluate design ideas and identify any technical constraints.
- Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from the initial concept phase through to deployment and maintenance.
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to tackle complex engineering problems and deliver effective solutions.
- Ensure that all software solutions are , secure, and scalable to handle the demands of SpaceX's operations.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, making necessary adjustments to improve efficiency and reliability.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, data science, or a closely related field, or a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in software development.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience in full stack development, software engineering, data engineering, or data science.
- Strong understanding of software development principles and practices, with a focus on delivering high-quality code.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with agile development methodologies and familiarity with project management tools.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to think critically and adapt to changing requirements.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, or similar languages that are relevant to the role.
- Familiarity with data analysis libraries, particularly Python Pandas, for data manipulation and analysis.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks like SciPy and PyTorch, which can enhance data processing capabilities.
- Knowledge of data visualization and exploration tools such as Jupyter Notebooks, Grafana, Metabase, or PowerBI.
- Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, for data storage and retrieval.
- Background in building web APIs and applications using the Microsoft .NET framework.
- Understanding of computer vision libraries, including Ultralytics and OpenCV, to support advanced data processing tasks.
- Experience in front-end development using frameworks like React or Angular to create user-friendly interfaces.
- Familiarity with version control systems, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices, testing methodologies, and deployment monitoring.
- Knowledge of statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to enhance data analysis capabilities.
