SpaceX is on the lookout for a dedicated Fire Protection Engineer to join our team in Redmond, Washington. This position is integral to supporting the production and engineering of the Starlink satellite constellation, focusing on ensuring that safety standards are upheld for the facilities involved in the development and operation of our global broadband network.

What you'll do

• Develop, analyze, and specify fire protection and life safety systems for various facilities.
• Generate compliance documentation that adheres to building and fire safety regulations.
• Collaborate with local authorities to propose alternative methods that meet performance-based design objectives.
• Conduct hazardous materials assessments, including the classification of chemicals and managing inventories.
• Support construction teams by providing field solutions and overseeing the commissioning of launch site facilities.
• Evaluate contractor shop drawings and perform code compliance analyses.
• Prepare and deliver technical reports and findings to internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of safety measures.
• Participate in safety audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards.
• Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in fire protection engineering to enhance safety protocols.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate fire protection systems into overall facility designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance on best practices in fire protection engineering.
• Engage in continuous learning and professional development to maintain expertise in fire protection and safety regulations.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is required.
• At least one year of experience in fire protection system design, construction, or consulting, which may include internships or academic projects.
• Knowledge of relevant building codes, fire codes, and standards set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
• Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees to comply with ITAR regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information.

Nice to have

• A bachelor's or master's degree specifically in fire protection engineering.
• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
• NICET certification in fire protection engineering is a plus.
• Experience in leading design teams and managing projects is advantageous.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards is beneficial.
• Proficiency in fire and smoke modeling software to enhance design accuracy.
• Experience in construction administration and oversight.
• Skills in Autodesk Revit for design and modeling purposes.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in Autodesk Revit for creating detailed design models.
• Strong understanding of NFPA codes and standards to ensure compliance.
• Familiarity with fire and smoke modeling software to simulate and analyze fire scenarios.

Practical notes

• Compensation for this role is competitive, with salary levels ranging from $100,000 to $117,500 for Level 1, and $115,000 to $140,000 for Level 2, depending on experience and qualifications.
