About the role
Become a vital member of the construction projects team at SpaceX, where you will play a key role in designing and implementing the infrastructure that supports our ambitious aerospace objectives. In this position, you will manage the entire lifecycle of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) projects at our rocket development facility, ensuring that all systems are integrated seamlessly and function effectively.

What you'll do
- Oversee the comprehensive MEP engineering process, including procurement, construction, and commissioning, while collaborating with contractors and consultants to ensure project success.
- Generate detailed design documentation, technical reports, and construction drawings tailored for both industrial and commercial applications.
- Negotiate contracts and supervise subcontractors throughout the duration of each project, ensuring compliance with all specifications and timelines.
- Proactively identify and resolve design or construction challenges that arise on-site, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing work.
- Work closely with electrical utility providers to secure dependable power supply for the facility's infrastructure.
- Maintain open lines of communication with stakeholders, fabricators, and engineering teams to facilitate project progress and address any concerns.
- Conduct site inspections and assessments to verify that work is being executed according to design specifications and industry standards.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure that all MEP systems are installed correctly and function as intended.
- Prepare and present project updates to management and stakeholders, highlighting milestones and addressing any potential risks.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure a approach to project design and execution.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in MEP systems to continually enhance project outcomes.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance and support to foster their professional development.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in the design or construction of MEP building systems is essential.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees to comply with ITAR regulations.
- A valid driver's license is necessary for this role.
- Physical capability to perform tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds, working in diverse weather conditions, and navigating tight or elevated spaces.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and in potentially hazardous environments while adhering to safety protocols and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
Nice to have
- Familiarity with power distribution systems operating under 600Vac is advantageous.
- Knowledge of HVAC design principles, including systems like boilers, chillers, refrigeration, and air handling units, is a plus.
- Experience with plumbing systems, including waste, vent, domestic water, and storm drainage, would be beneficial.
- Understanding of grounding techniques, lighting systems, and delta/wye transformers is desirable.
- Awareness of critical power systems, including backup generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and automatic transfer switches is a strong asset.
- Capability to implement design modifications with minimal disruption to ongoing operations is preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to assist technicians in resolving issues efficiently.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit at a beginner to intermediate level is beneficial.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, National Electric Code, International Building Code, and National Fire Protection Association guidelines is a plus.
